Phone Safety in the saddle

I'm sure you fellas could pick up some case with a wrist strap, I'm sure you could get it in a bedazzled pattern

Does this bedazzled thing you speak of come in realtree? Where did you get yours? ;)

I took a couple pictures. They aren't the best, but you can get the gist of it. This is my beta version, and I plan on making some changes, however this was adequate for the 2018 season.
The slits were enlarged in the field. I needed them to be positioned lower, and just ripped them down to where they needed to be. I would add some type of gather to the slits, so that my phone could not be seen from the side.
The top of the "basket" is attached to the tether biner via a cheap non-load bearing biner. I inserted a small lenght of stiff wire at the top where the cheap biner is. This helps keep the basket open. Both of the lower sides of the basket are attached to the loops on my saddle via S-binders, that are attached to a small cord that runs along the perimeter of the basket.
BTW if you think this thing is over sized, there are two reasons.
1) it needs to be wide enough to see the phone.
2) I also keep way more than my phone in it. (e.g. Grunt call, rangefinder, snacks, etc) it is nice to not have to reach for anything!

Other changes might include
1) changing from regular paracord to elastic cord. This would make it more flexible, and possibly keep it in place better during high wind.
2) add pockets to the inside so that certain items have their own designated spot (e.g. Grunt call)

I also my have to name "The Marsupial Pouch"

LOL, not sure about the realtree. Mine...yeah I just use a black case and put in a pocket or throw it in the pack....it's just a phone, it ain't like it's the thing I use to kill deer with or the knife to clean one afterwards. ;)

@Squirrels Last season I took a shot with a crossbow and went right under the belly of a doe. No chance I would be able to recock it so I pulled my phone out of the chest pocket in my jacket to take a picture. Dunno if it was adrenaline, pissed at missing, maybe it snagged for a second and I added umph to the pull, or what, but that phone came flying out, and in my mind it cartwheeled in front of me in slow motion as the @#$$^@ doe just sat there and watched me. So I figured I would try to cock the crossbow without the cocking rope thingie and when she heard the click she snorted or huffed at me or whatever and trotted off.

Afterwards I realized the field tips I used to sight in that were supposed to match my broadheads, didn't. Grrr. Phone was alright though.

Nah I never thought much of kt, I’ve dropped it once or twice over the past few years, luckily never into water. I’ve dropped camcorders in the water more than once though.

I normally put mine in a text pac muff in cooler weather. The only thing I found wrong with it is it will fog up if you text alot with the flap up. Otherwise it is ok.....keeps the phone safe though.

I like that pouch idea. I could fill that thing with sandwiches and granola, my coffee. Like a feed bag for my saddle. Or a phone. it really is a great idea.

If I had a cell phone I would put a tether on it and hang it around my neck and leave it up under my jacket. You could put the phone in your pack or pocket and leave it there until you need to take a selfie, telecheck a deer, to call the wife to let her know you will be a little late because you killed a deer...or to order a pizza for pick up on the way home. Then put it back in your pocket. I still have a hard time understanding how people call themselves huntin but sit there steerin at their phone in the tree. I reckon everwhat keeps people in the woods. Maybe time has passed me by in some areas. If so, I am fine with that. I hope your can find an acceptable resolution to your phone safety issue.

I always keep a phone with me in the tree. I use it for weather/wind forecast, checking sunrise sunset, taking pictures of deer I pass on, texting if I have a buddy with me to let him know a big buck is heading in his direction, looking at onx, checking work email (always on call), sending a geotag of my location to the wife for just in case, etc. I consider it a tool in my hunting arsenal :)

I use my phone getting into new spots, or after I've seen something and try to pin point where a deer is going/ coming from. Usually indicates my next move. I also enjoy taking pictures of each setup. Or if I know I'll hunt the area again but I need a different tree I'll mark it or take a picture using my phone. I view it as a tool. It's my GPS, and safety line if something goes wrong. Like last year when my basement was flooding I jumped ship from hunting before it got any worse. I didn't hike 3 miles to play candy crush, or update my Facebook status.

I made a little pouch I keep mine in on my hip.

I like to read on my phone to pass the time during early and late season. Generally for me deer don’t just pop up during these 2 times. During the rut it’s any minute, and I don’t read. I finished a book today in the stand. Waiting for the wind to die down and it was 3 hours till sundown.
