Platform Conversion

Hey guys.. the thought has crossed my mind too many times and now I gotta have some more input.. has anyone tossed around the idea even attempted to convert their platform into a lock-on?

Yea man.. a seat about the size of a Scout or a Perch mounted at the top of the platform (Predator, XL, or Mission)?

My initial thought is that to have a seat big enough to be comfortable, it will be real hard to stand up because your feet will be too far under you, due to small platform size.

I had the idea to use an ambush platform in conjunction with a torges style seat. That way you;'re not modifying anything and can adjust seat height. NEver got to it as I Sent my ambush platform back...

This is true, but a top could be employed to function like a rut roost-platform combo on a stick. Maybe add two squirrel steps or similar to a bottom strap.

The rut roost is a good option for what your referring too. Another option would be strap on seats like something that muddy or summit makes. But I would think you would need a larger or XL platform for that to work. At that point in time you’d probably be better off just getting a lwcg .5 tree stand. (Minus the price). Just my two cents.

This is my DIY platform from a cheap lock on I got from Walmart years back. It done me great for two years. I added a versa button on the bottom crossbar and it was solid after I done that. Light too only 3.8lbs with the paracord

I know the post height on most of the platforms would make for a very squatted position when it came to being seated but I spend most of my time standing so if I needed to take a 5-10 minute break and pop a squat, I could. I do agree that an ambush or mission would be best since they’re bigger but my whole reasoning behind it is to construct something that weighs extremely similar to the LWCG .5 or even less and for a lot less money.

Couldn’t you just add a few steps around your strap and sit in the saddle, or are you talking about getting fully seated to take a break from riding in the saddle?

the XOP Saddle Harness has solved this issue... if you need clarification on my thought process I will explain.

Yes I have try this. I put the seat of an old Lone Wolf Sand Cast seat that I was using for a Klemz platform on my DIY LWCG Ambush platform. The main reason was that I got to test out a LWCG .5 at the Maryland meet. It was an amazing hang on stand that would work for most people as a hybrid hangon/platform, just not for me. Due to my size 5''8', it wouldn't of work for me because the post was too high and my knee hit the tree right under the seat folded up. So I measure out how long the post would need to be so my knee would rest directly center of the seat. But this made the seat too short when I'm sitting, that my feet was in a very acute angle. It was just not worth it for the extra 3ish lbs of weight. If you rather sit in a seat, I just say go with a hang-on.

I have the rut roost and ridge runner from OOAL. I've often thought about putting the two together so I have a small seat and small platform made like a treestand so I dont have to mount them separately

Try to lengthen your tether or bridge, and then squat lower into your saddle. I do this and turn one way or the other so I have both feet firmly on the platform and then same side shoulder and hip against the tree. It's actually really comfortable in this position. And also very concealed on the tree.

It’s funny you say this.. I was going to say that the new XOP Saddle Harness solves this with its setup.
