Predator platform help

I wish all the gen 1 platforms could be replaced I can in vision a platform failure at an inconvenient time

Anyone know the failure rate? First I’ve heard of the problem. How recent is the gen 2?

That is in the works as we speak. Up until this point we just haven’t had the manpower to do it but in the future that won’t be an issue

Let me know if you need some more manpower....got some free time on my hands.

The Gen 2 has been around almost from the start. The Gen 1 only for a few months. I wonder what the failure rate is too. Maybe it is highly unlikely to fail. I am gentle with mine

These two threads are worth reading if you want more info:

Start at post 79, it talks about 1 out of the 3 tested failing below the advertised 300lb advertised weight(with the safety factor they used). so 33% of the gen 1's tested failed below the advertised weight limit, again at that safety factor.

Gen 2 on left. Gen 1 on right

So since this is the second failure I've seen (other on facebook group), I'm tentative about getting on my Gen 1. Does tethrd have a trade/pay difference option for gen 1 owners?

The gen two came out before all the folks who had preordered gen 1s had their stuff delivered. They started breaking right out the gate.

No idea about the rate of failure, but I've seen more broken gen 1s than pretty much any other platform. The possible exception is the old DIY XOP platforms that broke at the "nubs" when camming them over. Never seen a broken treesuit style platform, perch, wild edge step, or ROS posted on here. Not saying those products don't/can't fail, but I havent seen it.

@Ontariofarmer, mine broke at ground level last year, and I was/am generally tethered in when stepping up onto my platform or ROS. I also have a good sense of balance and experience in a saddle. At the time I had received the platform, I was working on converting my dad over to a saddle, and had thought about setting him up with a predator since it might be more "familiar" to him than a ROS.

The thought of him or somebody with a similar level of balance/experience breaking that platform 20ft up in the dark is unnerving.

after reading this i am very concerned about my predator platform. I am a bigger guy (270lbs) and don't want to be 25ft up and it break... Anyway i can exchange it??

I"d say your best bet is to contact them on FB, or put an add in the classifieds looking to trade for a gen 2.

I like my gen 1. Light, solid and easy to install. Although definitely inconvenient and frustrating to spend a lot of money on a product that broke, the safety concerns seem to be more of a talking point than anything. I don’t believe any of the breaks led to the platform dropping out from underneath someone. Even if it contributed to a loss of balance you should be tethered in before stepping on it. That should go for any platform, even the most reliable.
