I should have used a tape measure to square things up, apparently my eyes are crooked Lol but still came out pretty good. I used a primal step and a shooting rail off my son's ladder stand that he doesn't need. My scale is not to good but it's showing 3lbs

I know almost nothing about welding but want to try a concept I have in mind - would using JB weld instead of real welding working for something like this?

I wouldn't use JB weld for any weight bearing use if I was you! Take your idea to a local welder and get him to weld it for you for a few bucks!!

Nice job. I built something like that last year. It is my primary platform and it handles side pressure great. Here is a photo from yesterday's hunt. Mine is a no weld. I posted about it on SH last year. Getting the step close enough to the tree to tighten the strap was my biggest problem so I cut out the V near the back. It looks like your's has enough clearance. The farther the platform is from the tree the more leverage you can exert and the platform can pull away easier under body weight so I made mine close to the tree to eliminate this problem.

I used a platform last year that was made from an aluminum fence post strengthener and a Primal step. I have been trying to build a lighter and simpler platform based on the Primal steps. I have something that seems to work and that anyone with a saw and drill can make. No welder or special...

Exactly 10x12, good eye lol. At first set to tree it feels tight but once on it'll wiggle just a little but a good push down with foot at base of tree cures that. So far once it's set it's great. My only complaint is the tubing that bites to the tree packs full of bark so I have to clean it out often.
JB weld in the ends of the tubing will fix your problem with the bark
I'm kinda affraid if I block the holes then it won't bite as good. I thought about welding a couple sharpened studs on both sides to kinda do away with those holes that bite
Nice build! I like the design similar to the tree steps. I might have to try something like that. 3 lbs is good! Here is my first platform attempt, works pretty well except on small trees and it does tend to pull away and bend down. Similar size about 10”deep and 14 wide
