So, every video I see, people hook their dynaglide carabiner behind the knot on their quick link to pull their tether down. Other than noise, is there a reason to not just hook the carabiner into the quick link? I've literally only done one climb, but it sure seemed like it would be easier to hook into the quick link rather than behind the knot. Any specific reason for this?

I actually hook mine on the other side opposite the quick link. I use a bigger carabiner than some so it slides easier. YMMV but I have a few reasons for this. I have had a few episodes where on rough bark trees or those with limbs where (when attached behind knot of quick link) the rope will hang up, and then you have to back up 20 feet from the tree and pull extra hard to overcome the friction of all that rope around the tree. If you put it on the other side, on straight trees the rope will fall down the tree once enough slack is introduced, and at worst the rope has to pull through the quick link, which is minimal friction. My only concern is a tight crotch that might catch the quick link after the rope is pulled out and I'm tugging on the tag end. I've considered JRB's exploding hitches to avoid all of this, but I'm not big on tying things because I'm notorious for forgetting even simple knots and hitches.

Here's where I put mine, & have had no problems so far getting the rope down. I tried tying it behind the knot first, but for me, this position seems to break the rope's grip on the tree quicker, & gets the heavy end falling first, which is what I want.

I have had the same issue so I tie my dynaglide to the quicklink. I tie the pull down line with bowline as I feel there is less to get hung up on things and you can always untie a bowline now matter how hard you pull on it. When you are pulling on the quick link directly at the cinch point you get better leverage to disengage the quicklink from the cinch point.
