Traded in my mathews v3 27 and ordered a 30" hoyt RX7. Went with subalpine riser and black limbs. 60lbs.

After hunting with my prime ion for 3 or 4 seasons (still my permanent back up bow) I decided to upgrade to my "perfect" long term hunting bow. First I bought a hoyt axius alpha. The axius was ok but it just didn't fit me right, tuning was awful for me.

Then I moved on to a mathews v3 27. Great all around bow! Tuned super easy and remarkably accurate. I loved it all off season and put well over 1000 arrows through it. During actual hunting, though, I found the draw to not be ideal, especially the "dump" at the end of the cycle. I also didn't care for the "aggressive" let down, which caused problems using a hamskea drop away. I also felt like the dump at the end of the cycle made an audible sound that could potentially alert a deer. Its funny because I never noticed any of these "issues" with the v3 during practice.

In my never ending search to find the perfect bow I also bought a hoyt ventum 33. I loved the draw on it. Super smooth! It was a great shooter also, but the ATA was just too much for me. I bought it for only $900 and was able to get all my money back on it (thank god).

Basically I think with the RX7 I have found the perfect balance between the mathews v3 27 and hoyt ventum 33. Short ATA, smooth draw, and light weight.

Man I hope this is the one!

youza -- you have had all the cool toys! :) Let us know how it goes (I just got a torrex xt this year -- my first somewhat upper end bow -- not as upper end as the ones you buy -- but I gotta start somewhere).

I heard thats a really nice bow! Congratulations.

Luckily I was able to get great trade in value on all three bows which really let me "build up" my buying power over the last several seasons.

I got one recently too. It was heavier than I expected for a carbon bow. I got mine in the goretex elevated pattern. It zings my heavy arrow set up. It’s smooth with minimal vibration and the let off is amazing BUT it’s not nearly as smooth pulling back than the hoyt ulta aluminum 70# I had before. And it’s way harder to pull than my 70# bear species Lt bow was. It’s a fantastic bow and I love it but if I had it to do again, I would have saved $500 and stayed with aluminum. At .2 lbs difference it really wasn’t worth it to me.

Good luck bud, sounds like you got the best of all worlds for you.

I miss my Hoyt Spyder 30 and have been chasing that bow ever since I sold it. I’m shooting a V3 31 right now and am really liking it. I have had the RX1 and 3 and just didn’t love it. I almost jumped in on the 7 but was saved by being a lefty. I’ll wait to see how they stack up but that thing is itching my wallet.

I'm a lefty -- how did being lefty save you? Do you mean there is usually a low selection on stock at an archery shop (that happens to me).

thx

It’s takes a while for the new bows to come in. Hoyt was about may last year. It makes the impulse buy very difficult. Plus, I need to sell my RX3 before I buy anything.

The one time I considered a Hoyt I shot 3 or 4 at the dealer one day..... the Spyder 30 spoke to me. Went back later and it was gone.
Hoyt is one bow I've never owned for some reason.

Are you talking about the rx5?

I heard that spyder was a great bow!

I got it back in January of this year. I love how fast it zings the arrows but the cam system isn’t near as smooth as the Aluminum Ultra from last year. And it’s really not all that light for a carbon fiber bow. I do like where they placed the stubby style stabilizer. The bow weighs like .2 ozs less than my aluminum bear species lt. I would sell it but after all the begging I did so my wife would let me get it, I am positive she would kill me if I sold it. So it’s my heavy arrow set up and I use the bear for squirrel and small game arrows

If you had a perfect shot where you was in your relaxed shooting position ,I bet your muscle memory would have prevented that dump ,I get that in my triax on off shots
