Exploring another area of my archery ignorance- reusing arrows after a shot. I have 3 arrows/broadheads that I've set aside after they passed through a deer and stuck in the dirt. I currently use 125g QAD exodus broadheads(though the 100 and 125 are identical, save for a 25g additional collar I believe, blades are the same and while I assume the swept/barbed blades are the same, I use the full blade style only so my question is specific to them- do any of you try to sharpen the blades? Or since they are replaceable treat the blades like a disposable element? They seem ok but I've found another area to overthink things so decided to ask.

As far as the arrow goes I know to flex it to check for failure before I shoot it again, unless I am missing something I'm wondering only about the broadheads blades.

The whole reason I like these broadheads is because of how sturdy the blades are, given thickness and short length. And that they are simple as pie to resharpen with the stay sharp jig.

Lol why am I not surprised you're the guy correcting my overthinking. Thanks man!

I agree, I try to touch them up unless they are chipped for whatever reason then I’ll just replace the blades. As far as the arrows, if there are no noticeable defects and you don’t hear any cracking when you bend them I clean them up and put them back in the quiver.

Which stay sharp jig are you guys using for these?

Been shooting these the last few years and love them, have broken Humerus bones without a nick on the blades, blood trails and damage are always excellent. I've been using my used ones for practice heads but have enough of those now.

I’ve used the same head and arrow for 5 or so critters now. And I just touch up blade by hand and fine stone. Maybe I should get a stay sharp bc nails also get filed in the process.

Also, again I'm likely overthinking it, but coming from a woodworking mentality where grit is the enemy of chisels and plane blades and sharp isn't sharp enough. It seems like people have similar thoughts about broadheads, particularly the COC/single bevel camp... Any tips for cleaning the dirt/mud after you've shot (ideally through an animal) into the ground? Or stop whining and just spray them with the hose before I disassemble and just get it done?

I rinse with water and re sharpen. I sharpen them at a little bit of a steeper angle than they came from the factory. I’ve killed 4 deer with exodus broad heads this year. 3 of them were with the same head. I use the kme sharpening jig but you can use any system you want. I sharpen the point by dragging it across a stone.

These are the best broadheads ever made in my opinion. I was up to five bucks with one arrow and same head last until the deer finally broke my arrow. I haven’t really ever sharpened them other than a pass or to Over a stone. Things are so tough. If o herd they were going to stop making them today I would be ordering as many as I could to keep me stocked.

My first kill with them bent and chipped 2 of the three blades. That being said, I split the humorous on the entrance and blew up ribs on both sides with a complete pass through. I shoot 68lbs and 518grn arrows so there is some good kenetic energy there. I’m pretty impressed with them and regret not shooting them years ago.

These blades aren’t salvageable. But I am curious about my worksharp and some vise grips. I might do some experimenting.

I shoot Rothhaar Snuffers. I Enjoy Sharpening My Own. No Need For a Jig. Those Rings Are Four Deer This Yr, Same Broadhead and ArrowResized_20221113_105004_61.jpeg
