Do any of you folks untie your figure 8’s on you tether or LB? If not, does leaving the rope in a knot degrade it faster? If I leave the knots tied for a season or permanently am I endangering myself?

I always look things over , if there is any doubt I will throw it out . I look at the knots every time I climb, but I have never untied my figure 8. Very good question.

Idon't know the correct answer but i would think that if it was going to degrade the ropes there would be instructions to do so when you bought a lifeline or other pretied safely device. If i do untie a loaded/troublesome knot i found this tool at the marine supply store that helps out big time. Not sure what it's called

Thanks. I’m not concerned about difficulty. I know strength is lessened with a knot. I think most rock climbers untie any knots to extend the life of their ropes. I don’t know if that’s for all ropes or just dynamic or static.
What do arborists do?
