I have some 8mm Prusik cord rated for 3100 pounds. Will this be okay to use as a repelling line?
Hahaha I love your handleThanks for the help.
I found this info.
From a post:What's the break strength of dynamic EN892 climbing rope?
treetools.co.nz
Read ANSI Z133 section 3.5
Arbo rope shall have "a minimum nominal breaking strngth of 5,400 pounds when new."
There are other requirements too.
Oplux meets the MBS of 5400 lbs.
Sterling 9mm HTP doesn't meet the 5,400 lb rating or 24kN.

A small diameter, lightweight and versatile static rope with super low-elongation. Great for SAR teams or for tower crews for use in lightweight hauling and anchors.sterlingrope.com
Sterling HTP 9mm
I know I asked a similar question before, but would it be ill-advised to climb on Sterling HTP 9mm? I know it's a little bit scarier than 10mm, and it stretches...treeclimbing.com
I just posted information on what the government thinks is safe. It is up to us to decide if we want to be less safe.Good conversations on the treeclimbing.com link you provided. Those guys are on a different level though. Tree climbing to 150' is something completely different than what I'm doing in the woods! I struggle to see the fun in climbing a tree for a purpose other than shooting a deer but to each their own.

Maybe I'm wrong. ANSI = American National Standards Institute. Maybe they don't know anything.Government? Who ANSI? They’re a private not for profit organization. Or were you referring to something else?

Yes it will work fine for rappelling. I’m actually looking at using 6mm to rappel. Only issue you’ll run into is possibly friction trying to come down. Other than that, your perfectly fine to use 8mm to rap down after a hunt.I have some 8mm Prusik cord rated for 3100 pounds. Will this be okay to use as a repelling line?
When did I wave the safety finger? I let people make their own decisions based on data. I use thread from the Thread Exchange. If you think that is junk then others may differ. Go climb on whatever you want. I don't use the 5400 lb spec myself but I choose to accept the risk.He never said they dont know anything. Lol
And It is a private non profit.
you are the quickest to wave the safety finger at everybody else but your buying junk chinese thread on ebay. Enjoy! I would trust 3100lb rope over anything a HUNTER sewed together from info he read on the internet, mostly written by other hunters.
