Rifle Scope Advice

After only a little research, I feel like I’m leaning towards getting the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 for my .30-06...the scope I have on mine now is awful, so I know most anything will be an upgrade. Looks like I can get it at a decent price ($270). I hunt mainly timber and never have a very far long shot, so I don’t need anything crazy. This seems like a reasonable scope for my situation. Anyone have this particular scope on their deer rifle and care to offer advice? Anyone have a similar scope that I should look into buying? Thanks.

I have a viper on one of my tactical rifles, the glass is much better and more clear than the diamondback. If I were in your shoes I would get a leupold for the same money, the glass will be much better, USA made and a lifetime warranty. Just my option, I have a lot of scopes and for a classic non tactical deer rifle I go leupold all day.

What about a vortex cross fire II? They are $140wi BDC 3x9x40. Might work for you and save a little money for the $1.25 p/r 30-06

For 270.00 you can get a Leupold scope. Personally if I were to get another leupold for your 30-06 being in timber and never have long shots...I'd get the 2x7 power scope.

I have all vortex optics from red dots to range finders / binos to the tactical viper. Their lifetime warranty when a red dot scope stopped working was quick and easy, no questions asked. I have the diamondback binos and a 3x9 scope. I’m very happy with it. There is a noticeable difference in my glass from my crossfire scopes on my 22 to my diamond back to my viper. The biggest difference is in low light and fog. They all work great with the sun up, and a couple hundred yards. With that said, you will be happy with the diamond back for your setup.

Looks like I need to do a little more research on Leupold before I decide. Appreciate the advice.
Leupold's are nice, but in my opinion if you're spending around the 300$ range, there are much better options. Their lifetime warranty set them apart for awhile, but now a lot of scope manufacturers do that. Years ago I bought a .22-250 and thought I had to put a leupold on it because that's what you did. The guy at the gun store let me take a leupold and a bushnell elite outside and look through them both. The bushnell elite was better in optics and functionality. Havent bought a Leupold since. I put a 3-9 bushnell elite on a .223 and a vortex 3-9 on a slug gun.

Leupold's are nice. But be sure to put your hands on some and compare them to other scopes you may find you like one brand more than another based on feel.

Edot: To be fair I have two Leupold's attached to guns in my collection. One on a .220 swift and one on a 30-06. They are nice, but i dont buy into the leupold hype anymore.

Nikon is done with all there “hunting line” and you can find some smoking deals on scopes right now . Found a couple $700 scopes on sale for 4ish the other day and there $2-300 could be got for $100

Thats interesting...i have a Bushnell elite on my Tikka and my Leopold vx-ii on my model 70 blows it away.

I like leupold and vortex. I personally steer away from the cheapest line from any company. So I stay away from the crossfire and rifleman line. On a hunting rifle the leupold vx3 is tough to beat.

I’ve never owned one of the new freedom line but I’m told they compare to the old vx-ii

I agree there is a difference between the older vx2, vx3 line and the new ones. I am 100% with you in that I would never buynthe cheapest line...
