Rifles Passed...Coming to Illinois...

As good as modern slugs and muzzle loaders shoot now I don't see a big difference in shooting distance. The only advantage I see is cheaper ammo and availability. As slow as IL operates I doubt this will be in effect this year but we'll see.

I don't really care about the influx of non-resident hunters. I have access and lease different plots of land. I think what will keep most hunters out is the price of a buck tag...almost 500.00 for hunters to take a buck...I know I wouldn't pay that much to hunt something I could get in another state for cheaper.
Yes but you can kill two buck in Illinois, Indiana is $500 to kill one buck, and Ohio is $300 to kill one buck.
I hope it passes… Ohio and Iowa are straight wall rifle cartridges , Indian is straight wall rifle on public and regular rifle cartridges on private so Illinois should join the club and experience what all the other great whitetail states are doing.

Two bucks in illinois as a non-resident? you sure?

Sorry if it's common knowledge but I'm guessing those rates are for out-of-state hunters only? I know my home state of MI really hikes prices for non-residents.

Yes that was out of state prices.

oh okay. Ive only ever bow hunted, i was always under the impression we had to buy a separate firearms tag if we wanted to gun hunt to.
That is correct, you would need to buy a separate firearm tag

That's what i was thinking, I've been going to southern ill for a while and even purchased land there. I was wondering how i missed that if that was the case
What area of S Illinois do you go?

Maybe one of these days you all will be able to have a season like our that's 6 weeks of hunting with pretty much anything that goes boom. And covers most of if not all of the rut depending on the part of the state you are hunting.

can you use bottle neck cartridges in pistols now? if so, i'd get a tc encore/contender in something

The new law states tvmhst bottle neck cartridges must be 30 caliber minimum with the casing no more than 1.4”

that casing length restriction makes it tough....even the 357 herrett is too long

But you still can kill 2 bucks…

Yes, 1 with the bow and 1 during gun season.

You can kill two bucks in IL, one bow and one firearm. However as a a non-resident it would be $1,000 for bow and firearm tags.
Really straight wall isn't that big of a difference my Savage 2020 slug gun I use in IL will shoot 200 accurately. The only benefit I see is cheaper ammo, and a little more range, but with that said I am looking at 350 legends.
