Rope Switch?

I use the Beal 5.5 cord in a prussik with just 3 wraps on elite and now resctech. It has always locked tight, but still tends easy below my ATC …..really like that cord!
 
Looks like you found a solution, but I was going to suggest trying a different friction hitch. I like my Michoacan hitch for pretty much any friction hitch situation. On skinny line (like the Beal 5.5mm) I throw an extra wrap or 2 on there to spread the friction out and hopefully avoid hot spots.
