Hello Fellow Saddle Hunters. Last year was my first year. I used the latitude ropes. My tether is 8mm and linesman is 10mm. I held off on any mechanical device due to fact first year and Kong duck wasn’t good for 8mm and ropeman I think 2 would dig into rope too much. I just the tender that comes with my ropes and worked ok.

I just saw the ropeman 4. Not any reviews I could find. It says good for 8-10mm. And I’m interested in buying two. One for each application.

any feedback would be great if I should pull the trigger and go with ropeman 4 and drop the tender.

thanks!

8mm appears to be in spec for the Kong Duck. Were you having issues with it? I don’t have any feedback regarding the Ropeman 4, unfortunately.

I ever tried the ropeman on the 8mm. It’s the smallest rope and I felt may not bite enough. So I held off.

It is a copy of the Kong Duck I think. I have used the Duck and it is great. I am personally comfortable with the ropeman 2 on 8mm but not everyone is

Get you some 5.5mm titan cord from Bluewater ropes for your tether’s hitch and get a 7mm VT prusik from Bluewater for your lineman’s rope. Watch this video and use this hitch. It can be broken under load if need be and it’s very very easily tended. Way safer and stronger than any mechanical and will cost less in the long run..
Skip to the 5 minute mark if you wanna get right to tying the hitch

On 8MM rope, either Oplux or the new Samsung 8MM predator , why would you prefer 5.5MM Titan cord over 6MM TRC or the Beal Kevlar 5.5MM cord?

I wouldn’t prefer the 5.5 cord on the new 8mm predator rope because it’s an all polyester cover, I’d prefer the 6mm trc on the predator rope, but oplux is mostly technora, so is rescue tech and in my experience technora on technora tends to be pretty slick so either you have to add an additional wrap or two to your hitch to perform better, (I’m not a fan of adding additional wraps when there are other hitch cords that could work “better”) or you use a hitch cord with a tighter bite radius and a different sheath… which the 5.5 titan cord is…..

Can I use a ATC instead of the Madrock as shown in the video?

Absolutely…and it will work just as smoothly. But with an ATC are also safe to use with a hitch on the brake line side.
This is what I do.…I have a prussik below just like a brake hand for hands free working. Just make sure your prussik stays well below the ATC so it cannot enter it……..I used a long prussik once and had to retie it at height. I have since left the correct prussik on the line to prevent my ignorance from taking over. FWIW-. I’ve used 8 mm resctech with a Ropeman 1 and an HMS biner and never had issues, but not a recommendation of course.…..the RM 4 will be a smash hit at some point in the near future, probably
