Ropeman Safety

So you like this over a ropeman? And it doesn't bind up like a blakes hitch? Is a blakes hitch the same thing as a prussic knot?

Not sure how to answer that. When concerns were raised about the rating of a ropeman with a fall, which I agree is unlikely to happen, I saw thetracker talk about this. I decided to order and try it. I can say the one advantage the ropeman has is one handed operation to shorten or lengthen. And I guess another is I could get my bridge slightly closer to the tree. I could probably lose the pulley and make up that difference. I just like the pulley for climbing purposes.

Here is the pic. Not a lot of leftover. Not sure how close you want to make it. I have a micro pulley on it to make it more one handed. You can easily make your tether longer with one hand without the pulley. To shorten it still requires two. But this thing doesn't bind at all like a Blake's hitch. If I can I will make a video.

Nice. Let me know when the video comes out. Not sure how the micro pulley works.

Basically I can pull the tag end of the rope up and the hitch slides freely. Similar to the ropeman. Otherwise you have to hold the hitch with one hand and pull the tag end with another. But it still doesn't bind like a Blake's hitch.

I like it. And it eliminates the Ropeman but works basically the same.

I did. I have thought about dropping it. I think the fact that I climb with aider only, and the one handed operation helps a lot with that, keeps me using it.

One is regarded as the best. Not trying to sway you but I have been pretty happy with a schawbash hitch on a eye to eye beeline. Releases much easier than a Blake's hitch. With a micro pulley can have one handed operation

Hey! I knew there would be some converts on here eventually :D

@TheTracker got me convinced. If it is even a tiny bit safer than a ropeman, which I don't think is unsafe, and just as easy to use then I'm all for it. So far I love it. May be the best kept secret in saddle hunting. I need to order another bee line to use for a second tether or linesman belt.

Alright i love that knot.
Thats a knot my dad showed me when i was a kid ive seen it hold up pallets full of bushels of whiting. He was a fisherman for 60 years he showed me all kinds of knots i forget most of them lol

Awesome sounds and looks like a great mod. Quieter too. Ropeman is metal. And anything metal makes noise. Somehow
And worst noise you can make in woods is a metallic noise

I was wondering about the noise, can you loosen or let line out quietly? When I climb with my XOP I have to use 2 hands to loosen the ropeman to let out line to move up the tether

The ropeman is quiet. The cam maintains pressure so it isn't all loosey goosey making all kinds of racket. If it was loud, I wouldn't use it. you can tape the biner, but it isn't required to keep it silent.

I don't understand why you need two hands. Pull on the tag to ascend the rope. Push up the cam with your thumb and use your body weight to descend down the rope.

If I don't use 2 hands it will make a good amount of noise as the pressure releases.

Man, that bites. Honestly, I don't have that issue using one hand.

Do you have to take some of your weight off of it to let some rope out?

Also, does the cable release thing just hang? I see in the instructions shows it hooked into the load bearing carabiner. On instructional videos a lot of guys just have an empty carabiner hanging from it like a handle.

I had been using klemheist for years, but someone here recommended the Blake's hitch, so I switched to it. But so far, I think I like the klemheist better....it only loads in one direction (down) and is super easy to move away from load. This looks kinda-sorta like a klemheist so I can see It's advantages.

Yeah I take my weight off of it, at this point, I'm typically standing on my XOP hand climber moving up my tether, I loosen up the ropeman then move up my tether then tighten it down again, sit, pull up my XOP and repeat.

I have a small piece of 550 cord tied into a loop on the cable release, but it does hang loose, I don't have anything else clipped into it.

Sounds like more stuff for me to buy! I just want something that frees up easier than the Blake's hitch that comes tied onto the tree strap on the aero hunter. The linesmans belt doesn't bind up like the tether does. I can't get that thing to free up with all kinds of contortion and making ugly faces. Pretty intrigued by the schwabish or distel hitch. At least for climbing.

I like the V.T. with 5 wraps and 3 weaves at the bottom im big and heavy #260 all other rope grabs lock up too tight when loaded the V.T. is the only one that I can free up. keep it dressed properly hook it above your ropeman 1 or better yet the CAMP MATIK.
IM NEW HERE
