Rules for a reason

Very sad for all involved ,sounds like the warden let his guard down .The poacher most likely has PSD and some mental issues . Jmo

I probably agree with you 100%

Though it occurred to me at some point that the backstory behind being a plane crash survivor and going awol from the navy were significant details. It’s possible the kid had a long history of making bad choices. It’s also possible the the plane crash he survived was part of navy operation. If he was serving in the military and had some significant combat trauma then I’d advocate that we all show some compassion and offer a healing hand rather than a life sentence.
Possible it was military crash. Possible it was ptsd. I’m all for helping people overcoming their mental issues. However ptsd or no, as a military man he should understand and respect authority figures, in this case the warden. As I understand it, this would have been handled with a couple of tickets. The warden was unarmed and the attack was both unprovoked and repetitive. It would also seem from his statements to his friends that he already had the attack on his mind. No excuses imo and I don’t give him bonus points for sticking around and rendering aid, after he has already tried to get rid of the murder weapon. And he’s lucky he is in the state he’s in. Some states killing an officer is a capital offense and the death penalty is on the table. Out in 8 doesn’t sound like justice at all. And other articles on the matter say the guy was a repeat offender with multiple run ins with the law.
