Saddle care

I like John's no nonsense approach to bowhunting and the saddle type system is integral to his success, I just wish I had been able to find a TL saddle back when I spoke with John about it, and he was kind enough to give me some of his hard earned knowledge and advice. After getting his DVD I was even more disappointed I couldn't find a saddle since I now had a step by step system to setup on mature Whitetails but was missing an important piece to the puzzle, and didn't know if TL would ever be back in business again. I'm just glad that New Tribe stepped in to fill the void and we can buy a new product for a fair price instead of a having to try and track one down on Ebay. I would suggest that anyone thinking about hunting Whitetails seriously from a saddle or not check out John's video series, it is a solid step by step system for scouting, setting up, and hunting Whitetails.

Also thanks to Redsquirrel for starting this site and on a personal level demoing his Aero Hunter first hand for me to see and try out, but now I'm kicking myself even more for not getting one when they first came out, yet after reading all the mods and upgrades you guys are doing by the time I do get mine I'll be able to have it exactly how I want and need it. Also want to thank Boswell for all his threads, videos, and product reviews they have been invaluable and the videos have been watched over and over again! Also thanks to everyone on the site that take the time to post their success and failures and what works and what doesn't it helps all of us have a better experiences and hunts.

Saddle is turning out pretty good with the wax. I know from using bow string wax that threads absorb wax better when it's hot, so I kept the wax warm during the application by heating it in the microwave. There's not much wax build up on the saddle. When the wax started to build up I heated again.
 
I have an ozone machine in an air tight container that I started using this year for all of my equipment and boots. I throw it in there every few hunts. It has been working great!

Ozone machines are used to deodorize. They are frequently used in commercial applications such as hotel rooms. I have a tube running into an airtight container from that machine and I put my stuff in the tub and let it run.
 
I know it is used in commercial applications. I learnt about it in John Eberhart's book so that is enough for me. I did try a cheaper version made for hunters because I couldn't find the recommended one and I think it was a piece of junk. After getting the unit I posted I am 100% convinced it works.
 
With proper storage and care, how long will a trophyline tree saddles last?
I have one that's a decade old and still functions properly, but isn't in mint condition. I know guys are probably using ones that are older. I'm just trying to figure out how many spares I need for the next 30-40 years? I'm thinking 1 -2 spares should be enough.
 
I couldn't say exactly, but with proper care a saddle should last a long time. The biggest thing on the saddle to maintain is the bridge. Make sure you keep that from drying out. The bridge on my saddle is getting a little fuzzy. The other thing that wears is the tree strap but you can at least use a rope or make a custom one.
 
Interesting. I have only ever waxed the webbing. I haven't noticed any wear on the mesh portion. Let me know how it holds up in the field!
