Saddle hunters support thread.

Think I’m done with climbing and hanging stuff. Setup has worked fine for 2 years and I really don’t have any need to change things. I even bought a set of Hawk sticks last fall thinking I would actually give sticks a try. Ha! ha! Not. Gave them to a poor college kid that was looking for some on a forum, brand new, still in the box, never opened. I even paid $35 bucks to ship them to him lol. Just paying it forward. So no, don’t need any new gear to get into the tree. I do have my eye on a Burris Oracle X for my xbow though….oh and a few of those fancy Tactacam Reveal Pro cell cams!

Elk trip, eh? Any more beans you're willing to spill? Or extra seats in the truck? Lol

Not much to share yet. I was planning a trip in '24 with a buddy. I found out last week that I am getting an extra week of vacation at work a year earlier than I thought so a quick call to my buddy to confirm he was good to go this coming year turned our '24 trip into a '23 trip. Only problem is I have one less year to acquire the gear I need.

I also bought a pair of Zamberlan boots, a 0 deg underquilt for my hammock and a new pair of bino's on the 30th. But that was last year and this thread was clearly talking about purchases THIS year. lol

Edit: If any of you want to help fund these purchases please check out my listing's in the classifieds. ;)

Nice! If you're in a sharing mood whenever yo sort out more details I'd love to hear about any of it, gearing up, choosing a state/unit/tag to target (I'm definitely not asking for a post disclosing your unit number/honey hole here, but are you using points in a draw, buying OTC tags, gun or bow, meat or trophy goals? Etc), any of that. Or I'll search for ya on rokslide since this isn't the target demographic ,(I've heard saddle is creeping in to elk hunting, will you bring one?) I'm diving in deep as well, this summer i will return to Alaska if at all possible, potentially spring black bear/salmon, or fall caribou. Elk within the next 2-3 years, moose and Mikey are on the list as well (let's be honest, if it's legal to take and eat, its on the list). divorcing is both slowing down and speeding up my hunting plans in different ways, but ultimately, it's time to live life fully.

Tyvek. Ground cloths. I've been meaning to buy some house wrap to cut up for a ground cloth, haven't gotten around to it yet. Feels silly offering a 20 dollar savings knowing how many more zeros of gear you'll have/buy, but whenever I grab a roll I'll have a LOT more than I need if you're interested (I'm giving floorless hot tenting with a wood stove a go, but it's useful for other stuff like a glassing seat etc)

Ok, I know this is an oldish thread, but I need help…

Figured I was done spending for a bit, but my list of gear to buy is growing. I’m gonna buy the left handed version of the Redline Torch 2 pin when it comes out next week, Badlands Pyre bibs, Pnuma heated long Johns, and the Latitude Carbon sticks. Crap! I also just saw the Marsupial web belt. Looks cool. 30 bucks more couldn’t hurt.

Why? Asky why you need them? Is your sight broken? Is it that much better?
Did you get cold last season?
How much better can the carbon sticks be compared to what you have?
If the long johns will help you to get out And hunt more. I would purchase those. The other stuff sounds like wants. There was some good clothing marked down on the classifieds if the size works. I bet some of those carbon sticks will hit the classifieds as well after they are released. I'd let the other guys try them first. If you don't see a lot on here guys like them. If you do, they aren't all they are made out to be.

I keep walking past this howa 308 with a 16 inch barrel at bi mart.green stock.it just be Callin me man.im trying not to snort it.help.

I've got a Howa in 7mm Rem Mag. It's an excellent rifle, and the design lends itself to accurizing, with a flat bottom and Mauser-style recoil lug. I'll take one over a Remington 700, hands down. Plus, the aftermarket for Howas has gotten really strong over the last few years, you're spoilt for choice on stocks and triggers andscope bases, even MDT chassis systems. I put a DNZ 1-piece base on mine.

Rifleshooter.com has written on these rifles extensively: https://rifleshooter.com/?s=Howa

I don't think you'll do much better than a 16" Howa with a LVPO for a practical hunting rifle. Toss on a 2-7 or 3-9 scope and you're set for any situation you're likely to have swinging out of a tree, or stalking to and from your site.

So I thought I’d be good with my Hawk saddle, but I have a Buzzard Roost in my cart right now…..it’s like a loaded needle only inches away from my vein. On the flip side, I was looking through the vortex scope on a mossberg package in 6.5 creedmoor yesterday, but I resisted. I’m laying here 2 weeks postop from total reverse shoulder replacement and can’t even start PT til Tuesday. So much ideal time on my hands has me really struggling.
