Saddle hunters support thread.

I know my options were the Summit Titan, the ground or a chair of some sort or a saddle. Hang ons are uncomfortable to me and often too small. The Summit is awesome but large and heavy. I have zero issues carrying that weight (currently) but I’m also smart enough to work smarter not harder. So the saddle and a platform of my choosing is the perfect option. Plus I can travel with my setup. I’ve gone to NY, PA, ND, CO etc all with my entire saddle hunting setup in a rolling bag (that’s with four full size beast sticks ). I agree with you that most larger guys who get into a saddle instantly realize how nice it is due to the various options for saddles and platforms.

nice

you confirmed my suspicions, maybe

i was half kidding

but i've never been on a forum where random folks routinely say 'i'm 6 foot 4 and....'

@Zero One Actual I made a terrible video showing my load shelf access without using the Velcro idea for the k4. It'll only work if the stand is shorter than the pack or if you set it up to hang out the bottom/thread the straps through it, instead of needing the stand or sticks to extend our the top, but let me know what you think and if this bypasses the Velcro, or if the top access is 100% necessary. It might have depth issues as well, but I feel like a saddle platform or thinner stand or some stacked sticks could still fit. My platforms and sticks are at the back of a closet at the moment or I'd load them and test it, but hopefully this ramble gets my idea across.
let me know what you think, but please ignore the background, shoddy camera work, and unscripted ramble lol
Thank you for making the video. It is very well done given you aren’t editing and you don’t have any fancy gear. Anyone watching can clearly see what you are referencing.

So I just undid the Velcro several times very slowly and will say it’s about the same amount of noise as undoing a Velcro cargo pocket or the equivalent of taking three to four steps in dry leaves trying to get to your spot. But undoing the straps from the bottom is more fine motor skill involvement and more time as well. So to the end user it may be a wash. That will be up to the individual. The good thing is you thought of this option and it does work.

oops i forgot that one of the primary reasons i agreed to do the video was to show everyone how dang loud the velcro is, not to keep arguing. will do what i agreed to shortly lol.

One could probably slide sticks and a platform in without undoing the top or bottom connections (like a sleeve), depending on how tight the bottom straps are drawn. Then just get a bag with enough capacity to haul outerwear and what not.

I’d have to loosen those bottom straps anyway to slide a .5 seat between them. Those are sewn pretty narrow on the K4 so probably not as easy to do compared to a Popup28. Also, more connections to the bag on those straps.

Rather than going through the bottom to use the load shelf, I’d probably just undo the Velcro. Going through the bottom is still a good thought though. I’ve considered a similar approach with Kifaru except unfastening the bottom straps can be a chore depending on how you set them up.

Why I like the Seek Revolution, I can lash my stand on at the perfect height to balance the load, for me, Unbuckle a few ladder locks and take it off. As well, it locks the stand on like a rock without having to weave any webbing through the stand. It’s very versatile.

That’s not to say the K4 frame won’t outperform it in other ways.

Good video, thanks for putting it together.

I'm thinking saddle hunting must draw larger guys in due to regular stands being too small.

There's just way too many guys over 6 foot on here, compared to general population.
Ha! There are a lot of big dudes on this sight …. I mean 14W shoe…. What the, that’s a gun boat to me not a shoe. Hey btw there are some of us mighty mice on here too don’t forget now!!! 1682388573854.png

How crazy is it to already have a 3 year old Mystery Ranch Scree (~$200) that is in good shape, but you want a second in case they quit making them because you consider it the ultimate pack? I've had one in my cart all week!

Absolutely nothing wrong with that process. I do it with shoes all the time. Once that years model is gone, it’s gone then it takes me forever to find a new pair that I love.

Pretty sure you're the one that helped with the two Spydercos I bought....LOL.

just ordered in Lizard color L/XL

the only mods needed are 1. cut off the metal zipper pulls that jingle and replace with pull cords and 2. put my bungee cords with balls in strategic locations

If you plan on hauling gear in using the load shelf, I recommend you watch this video:

Accessing the load shelf is very easy, but there’s velcro. Not the end of the world, probably make way more noise climbing, but it’s something I don’t prefer.

I do think the K4 frame is really smartly designed for comfortable carrying, but I personally favor layout features of some other frame pack options for my saddle hunting setups.

I’d just suggest considering if the K4 is fully compatible with your hunting setup. It’s unfortunately not ideal for mine and it kind of bums me out.

Ok, so I took another look at this and the velcro isn't an issue. Sorry for the fuss

If using the load shelf to haul gear in, the bag won't be attached to the frame at the top, so the velcro isn't in play. It's the Lid that connects the bag to the frame when the load shelf is being used. (or Accessory straps may be used sans lid it appears).

The WLRs hitch?
Nope! I do have one of the WLR Featherlite LB though, it's pretty darn nice. I have only played with a little though.

I was super interested in the new Featherlite tether but an 8mm tether for $90 doesn't excite me like I was hoping. I think there are cheaper options at that size/ price. -- I don't have anything from Brocky but I might soon lol

Ok, I'm looking into some more compact options. I'm not impressed so far... I really don't want to put poor ideas out. Only things I intend to use or deem good. I'm like 215#, so maybe the lighter end of the heavier guys?

I see several great prices on rope and cord of interest but I don't really want to have several hundred feet or rope and cord hanging out. Nor spend a few hundred $$ on my experiments.

Maybe I should just make a thread to gage interest in said rope/cord and sell off the extra at a Hopefully discounted price. I dunno.
