Saddle kits (new guy)

But very comfortable. I put a Tethered xl on a tree right beside the MISSION. I sold the tethered the next day. Weight doesn't matter if you can't hang out in the tree all day. You have to be comfortable and not moving around.
I am 6'3" and 250lbs, if I want to cut 5 lbs out of my set up. I will lose 5lbs of body weight .. which I should probably lose 20+ anyways
Another reason I am looking at a saddle is due to spine issues I can’t carry treestands in, I have to cart them in, so total weight is an issue for me. My hopes are that I can get set up with a light enough weight with a saddle that I can get in a tree without having to use a cart. I hang and hunt on public land on every outing.

I would definitely try some different saddles out. Spine issues just throws a whole nother wrinkle in the mix. Where do you live, any saddle guys around?

I don’t have any issue hanging in a rock climbing harness.

We all have different bodies and use saddles in different ways. I bought and sold a few saddles before I found what designs worked best for me. In my book, Aerohunter and Wood Hunting Saddles are comfortable and well designed. I think both companies offer kits. Try before you buy if possible: the forum has listings for meetups, see if you can find one in your area. Or buy used at good prices so that you can flip buy and sell a few to find what works for you.

Cruzr XC, Latitude Vapor 8mm lineman’s rope and tether, Kong ducks, tetherd dump pouches is how mine is setup. Imo, that’s the best setup that I could find. I think it’s better to purchase everything individually.

I was freaked out by hanging by a rope when I first tried it last year… I maybe went up 10ft to get the feel. I slowly went higher each time I practiced. Now, the best part is getting setup at the top and clipping into the rope! I doubt I’ll ever go back to a climber….and I’ve got 6 Vipers in my building collecting dust that I’ll still hold onto, but they probably won’t be used anytime soon.

Why Vapor ropes? I looking to move away from my original 11mm Tethrd ropes and move down to 8mm just wonder what made you pick their ropes.

Very durable and lightweight. I can put my tether and lineman’s rope in the same pouch… I researched ropes and they seemed like one of the best available.
Those tethrd 11mm’s suck… that’s what I had before the vapors.

I am giving you things to think about. I hate to see anyone waste money, I know I have wasted more than enough for everyone. What is going to be your climbing technique, what is going to be your platform, what size ropes to rapell, friction knots or ascenders?????? One kit is not going to get you where you need to be.
This guy said! I bought a kit, had have “add ons” so to say, got rid of sticks to one stick, now gonna 2tc an rappel with my one stick rope and waiting to get a different saddle while already saving to get 100 ft of rope an cord because I feel jrb is the safest and where I’m at that’s the most important for me and I believe it’s the best as well, very smart man

I’m brand new to this as well. I’ve got the Tethrd Phantom kit and have been really happy with it as I’ve practiced and gained confidence in the process, I didn’t know anything (and I still don’t know much) when I got into this and that felt like my best choice. I feel comfortable and safe in it which is big for me, I don’t love heights and yet want to be able to be up in a tree for long sits this fall.

That being said I didn’t find this community until after I’d already purchased it and I have come to understand it’s not the most popular brand around here. I don’t sweat that too much, you’ve got to find what works for you to get where the deer are and hang out so to speak.

Lots of different opinions and great advice here that you can use to get more meat in your freezer, best of luck to you!

i bought the Cruzr super kit...i know there's pieces in there that I'm going to replace, but, you have to start somewhere. The only thing non-Cruzr I bought was the steps.

I’m pretty set on the saddle (Cruzr XC) unless I see something different that looks better for me, owning a custom boat canvas shop I can make needed alterations. As far as ropes, carabiners, and Ropeman I’m good. The platform is an open question but I would have to have one that has an adjustable lean and on the larger size.
I still have one big issue, hanging from a single rope, I’m just not confident I can get past that.

Haha….yes, you will get past that! Just get off the ground like 2 steps and try to fall out of your saddle! Put your platform or ROS on too! Check your limitations just a foot or two off the ground…….turn around on your platform. Practice rappelling by walking down a flight of stairs or just walking backwards downhill somewhere. My Hawk saddle came with everything too. Love the saddle, the mechanical ascender and carabiners, but only used the tether and lineman’s belt a few times before I got Canyon Elite rope. Trusting the amsteel bridge was the toughest for me to get past. Now I have it on about everything!
