To test this, try taking a broadhead and cutting Samson Predator or even Amsteel blue with one swipe. I know cutting both with a knife is a PITA - I'm worried about slicing a rope. I don't even know how I could get in a position to do so unless I'm less of a monkey than most. My broadhead is usually facing away from my tether.

Agree 100%. You're not accidentally cutting a rope. If I switch to smaller webbing I may reevaluate, but I've tried sawing on a tether with a Lutz blade and it ain't going nowhere fast.

I agree 100% that it prob wouldn't cut clean through, just something I'm always conscious of when I'm 20ft up and almost 200lbs of weight is hanging on the tether.

I found this belay on MIL-SPEC MONKEY.COM but you could also just put a caribiner on your belt. The tail of your tether is there already so if it makes you more comfortable you can put a prussic rope or similar on the end and hook up.

There is almost no way a broad head would cut the line. It would take multiple passes with one even a knife i think would take more than one pass to cut it. Depending on rope size. But would still be aware of broad head positions and avoid contacting rope. However bumping the rope would do no damage. Do rock climbers use a back up tether when climbing?
