Anyone else appalled at Scentlok’s $19.99 mask? Who does that at a time like this?
They’re marketing them as “Essential masks” for 2,000+% of what a typical ppe mask would cost. Why would you take their stance over a normal human’s?Had to search and see if this was a "tongue in cheek" post or something Scentlok had actually started making. Much better off spending the $19.99 for the gaiter IMO, at least that can be used for hunting season. As for being appalled, mixed opinions will abound. Some will think, "hey good for them for making something useful in these times." Others will think, "how dare them try to take advantage of people in these times." For me I guess it comes down to: It's cool that they added this too there lineup and nice that a part of the proceeds go to a good cause. It would be nice to see them donate to the health care and other front line workers, which they may of already done?
Essential Masks
Because no one is being forced to buy from them and it's not like they went out and purchased thousands of N95 from a supplier and trying to turn a profit on them. This is something they are using their material and manpower to make so it is not a sin for them to charge for them. Up to the free citizen to decide whether it's a purchase they want to make or not. I'll stand behind my first statement, I'd rather purchase a gaiter (which I already had back last hunting season). They’re marketing them as “Essential masks” for 2,000+% of what a typical ppe mask would cost. The only reason I question it is because on all their other products they mention "activated carbon technology or Carbon Alloy™ technology. It says carbon layer. I assume that means activated carbon just like anything else they sell.
Yeah I hear ya man. I am on the fence about it really. If they were 9.99 , I don't think people would have even blinked an eye at it.I wonder what motivated this product launch. If it was money/profit than you could say “that’s okay, every company’s motivation behind a product launch is profit”
But given the circumstances when it is literally an “essential” item for national safety AND in low supply AND dozens of companies and countless Americans are making them for free....its just not a good look for Scentlok!
I believe in capitalism so go for it Scentlok. But boy oh boy is this transparent and boy oh boy did I squirm when I saw the description on their page that tried desperately to hide their motivation.
