Schedule 40 PVC bow hanger

Thanks for the idea. I used about a 10" piece. Works great. Might end up making it a little shorter though. 20200723_112208.jpg

Started out as an 8.5" piece of scrap 1" pvc pipe. Used a plumbers torch to heat up, flaten it out. Then shaped it. Then sanded (ends up charred and black from torch). Then painted.

Ok, so how did you do slot.?

Used a dremel tool with sanding disc. Sanded down outside edges, then heated up with plumbers torch and put to screwdrivers through the slots to pry open until it cooled enough to hold shape.

Good idea, thanks! Now someone needs to make one of these to hang on one:

Tensile strength of 1" schedule 40 is 581 lbs. Heating it up, flattening it out and shaping it will reduce that but not to the point a compound bow will exceed it. Over heating it will make it more brittle, so need to use caution to heat only to the point you can mold it. Google pvc bow and youll see many people have made bows out of 1 inch pvc with draw weights above 60lbs.

I hung a 45lb plate off mine just to see what would happen. It flexed a bit, but held it up just fine. Now, hit with a hammer and it will break pretty quick.

Guys used to make homemade steps out of pvc parallel with the tree with a slit cut through it big enough to fit a strap through and ratchet them down or use a cam buckle. I wouldn't advise it but they work.
A company used to sell them......cant remember the name of them. Something paws?
