Too bad St. Clair county isn't really closer for either one. I would still be willing to drive there but I have no love for driving through Detroit :(

You would be coming up from ohio? It would be a fairly easy hike up I94 through Detroit out to my neck of the woods, though I’m still about 2hrs from the state border.

Unfortunately if I do this setting up too far away from home base is likely not going to happen.

Not sure what @ablairTTO had in mind as far as location goes, if he was thinking south of Detroit or what?

One option was Hudson Lake State Park. That is a bit off the beaten track and not near any real highway access.

Waterloo rec area might have more options, and it's right off I-94 west of Ann Arbor.

I wonder about the Dundee Cabela's, but it's got no trees around it and they don't stand to benefit much from it.

I can check with the Lenawee County Conservation League. Other sportsman's clubs in SE Michigan may be more centrally located and open to guests using their property for climbing, bow shooting, etc.

I get it. I appreciate you taking this up and understand that it is a lot of work and whatever place you get will be great. I was really bummed that I couldn't make it to the first one. I would love to host one of these events but I have no place to do it. So, if I am available for the date, I will be there with anything I can contribute.

So we've got some time here, let's kick around location ideas... But let's start with this, where is everybody coming from, and how far would they be willing to drive for this?

I live in the very Southeast corner of the state, Monroe. Detroit is a 45-minute drive north for me, Ann Arbor is a 45-minute drive Northwest for me, and Hillsdale is about an hour and a half to the west of me. I would be willing to drive 1-2 hours.

I'm between Detroit and Flint. Willing to drive anywhere.

Coming from petersburg michigan, Exit 9 on 23.

I can ask if it would be cool to have it at my archery club. For a couple $/person may even setup some sort of a shoot if nothing else is going on already. It's in temperance michigan. If interested let me know I can dig into it.

Guess it wouldn't really offer any scouting opportunities like a state game area but would ha e everything else, parking, grill if we wanted. I could see if they would want to run the cooking or just let us do it for the money we could chip in.

Anyone familiar w. Ottowa sportsmans club in SE Mi? Looks like a nice place. They have an archery club as well as temperance Mi. I'm willing to help w/food. Maybe a kettle of soup on the fire if that helps.

Never heard of it but open to whatever.

Is anyone really in interested in shooting? I just threw it out there as a possibility since I was offering up to use an archery clubs trees for climbing.

Wish we had open season hogs to hunt while we're out like they did in florida...but then again I really dont haha.

We could do a metro park in southern michigan... Willow metropark or Lower Huron Metropark

If we work out the date, and guys are willing to throw in for food... I have a professional smoker and do bbq catering. We could do pulled pork sandwiches and folks could bring some sides and what not. edit1.jpgedit2.jpg

Man, you guys are killing me . . . I was planning on passing on this one but I have to think about a road trip now.:D

That's why I wanted to know who would be interested in a shoot vs just saddles and apparently bbq .

I'm not concerned about shooting necessarily. Depending on interest that may lean us into one site (sportsmans club) vs the other (park).
