I really wanna give self filming a try. I.know nothing about cameras but been doing some research. I purchased a lwcg arm and have been looking at the sony z1 series and the go pro 11 but i read the go pro wont mount to an arm

Anyone got any advice on a budget friendly camera also i want to use it for other gamily activities. Thanks for any help

Forgive me OP. Curious how much does one need to spend to get a decent setup. Kinda fits here... maybe.

I just picked up a Sony RX10 IV, a bit pricey to be considered a budget camera but it's performance and lens seem worth it to me. I also used the LWCG arm this past season with a phone mount and my phone. Sort of a trial run to see if I would be interested in doing a full setup and spending a good bit more. I would highly recommend adding a Genesis 3D mount for the LWCG arm. It made a huge difference in stability and ease when setting the arm on the tree. Carrying the extra gear wasn't as much of a hassle as I had thought and I'm pretty excited to give it another go this upcoming season with a real setup. Good luck on your search.

Thanks, i may go this route before I make a big investment
If you are going cellphone route this might be a good option from one of our own.

Lwcg pocket arm is all you should invest in to start. A small arm that’s super easy to set up and easy to pack. In my experience the fiddle factor of filming is what stops people more than anything so a lightweight one step arm will keep you filming. Next get you a phone holder and a small cheap head, I’d recommend the small rig fluid head. This setup is small, easy to use and works great with a phone to get you started and the same rig will handle larger equipment like a Sony ax53 camcorder with mic, or a Sony a6400 w/ 18-105 and mic.

If you want to step things up a bit with your phone get the filmic pro app (2.99 a week during season) and a rode video mic mini. The app will allow you to have unlimited control over your phone camera so you can film in manual. The mic will help with audio a ton.

I’ve filmed for years and used a ton of gear and cameras and think this setup is the way to go for a newbie. I filmed hunts with my 13 pro max, Sony ax53, and an a6400 this year. I do it for fun and just really love having the video. I’ve been fortunate to acquire some nice camera stuff so I like using it but there are times where I don’t want to mess with it, or didn’t charge all my batteries or whatever and since my phone is always with me that phone mount stays in my pack and is always there.

I have some crap cell phone holder from Amazon mounted to my pocket arm works perfect for me.

i haven't tried the pocket arm, but the fourth arrow saddlelite arm is very nice, too, with a good leveling system.
