For all of y’all out there using wild edge steps with a perch and knaider/swaider, how do you climb onto or setup the perch on your last step? I currently carry 5 wild edge steps to set my perch on the fifth step about 18” above my fourth step. I use a K/S to climb, but cant seem to find a good routine to set up the perch and climb on top of the fourth step. I have saddle hunted for about 13 years, but I just switched to the wild edge steps for this season. Any tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve had this same dilemma and almost posted the exact same question.
Although I haven’t tested it yet, this is what I’m thinking I’ll try out (before opening day ;)
1. Set my platform on my 4th step at about 18 feet using a K/S, at about chest height. If I’m climbing at the 6 o clock of the tree, I’ll set this step at the 9 o’clock to my left.
2. Set a 5th step at chin height inline with the others at 6 o’clock, and K/S up onto that one.
3. Attach my tether, and then step onto the platform.

I intentionally didn’t mention attaching the platform because this year I’m two have it already set and zip tied. See post below.

Would love to hear what others are doing.

I used this set up all last year. I wasn’t worried about stretching out the last step to gain more height. A couple near misses with the perch and step combo made me change my mind about maximizing step intervals. I settled on the stepp (with perch) being below waist level above the second to last stepp. I also set The perch assembly at a 45-60 degree angle away from my path of ascent. This way I was able to set my tether securely, and still safely step onto the platform. It also allowed me to safely descend the tree. My ascent and descent were usually in the dark, so that always adds a level of difficulty to mitigate. I’ll add that I used just a knaider with this method, as I tried the swaider portion and did not like its learning curve

I have been thinking about attaching an aider to my perch and setting it just above waist level. I may try it out this week.

My set up is similar but not the same as yours. But the final transition should be close. I climb with a 5?step aider and primal steps. I carry 4. The first 3 with aider get me 18-21 ft depending on specific tree. When I’m on the aider of the 3rd step, I set my 4th step 12” above and just to the left of the 3rd step. I insert my DIY platform( for u, your perch). Then finish climb onto the 3rd step. From there it’s an easy Tether hook up and transition To the platform without any slack. If for any reason the platform is not tight enough then I can safely step back to the step and recam the platform step
