Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Singer 211G155
$292
Glen Burnie, MD

Singer 15-91 for $20 near Somerset County NJ. Too far for me.

Singer 111w155?
$100
Spring City, PA

I am looking at a Juki LU-563. Can anyone weigh in? Everything I have researched tells me this machine will handle anything I can throw at if for Saddle building and then some. I would be purchasing it from a shop that has professionally gone through it to include a brand new servo motor. They are asking $1,400 (complete with table and motor) which @sojourner and I went back and fourth as to whether or not its priced to high.

Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks. Any drawbacks/concerns with a "copy" versus the Juki?

Personally, I wouldn’t have any concerns. Typical makes a ton of sewing machines, including for Sailrite.

When jhunter13 were going back and forth on price I mentioned sewpro

The model on bottom (not direct comparison), sewpro 1541s is a juki 1541s “clone” with a second top tension knob and a feed dog height adjuster. He is selling for about $1,450 new.

It appears to be the same as a thor 1541s. Thor boasts that it uses a juki hook. I did not see that boast on the sewpro machine.

What are your thoughts on the sewpro clone and the Thor clone?

Thanks!

I would imagine the Sew Pro and Thor come off the same line. Both would be really nice to use, and preferable to a Juki 1541 for the extra features. @JCLINE84 has a Thor as I recall, and prefers it to his 1508. FWIW, he’s wrong:tonguewink:

That Thor 1541 is like a mix of the juki 1541 and 1508. It seems to be as heavy duty as a 1508 but has the vertical bobbin like a 1541. The Thor isn’t as polished as my juki machines but it will sew through anything and will make a perfect stitch with any type of thread I’ve ran through it. Can’t say the same for my juki machines. I have to tune the crap out of them to run each different type of thread. Even if I’m using the same brand of 92 in different colors. Black thread takes more tension than tan thread in the juki for some reason. But that Thor will eat anything I wanna feed it. So I end up using it more than any machine I have. The Thor is louder than the juki and isn’t nearly as smooth at higher speeds though. But for heavy duty slow sewing it’s a better machine for the money in my opinion. One thing that makes the Thor 1541 better than the Juki 1541 to me is the dual tension disc. Really helps with heavy thread.

Thanks for the review...Now I need to just stop procrastinating and pull the trigger. @JCLINE84 annoyingly loud or just not as quiet?

@JCLINE84 do you have a speed reducer on your Thor?
I don’t have a speed reducer on any of my machines. I put brushless servo motors on them and change the pulley to a 1.5 inch and call it a day. That gives me plenty of power and slows things down to where I can control the speed easily

Glad to know. A 1.5" pulley is way cheaper than a speed reducer.

Vintage Kenmore flatbed with table, $35, Norwood, NJ

Great deal for a more than capable vintage kenmore!
If I didn’t already have 4 vintage kenmores, I’d be all over this. It won’t last long at this price.

Is this a 15-91?
