This thread is for posting links to deals on sewing machines appropriate for sewing saddles/packs/webbing--the stuff we do around here. Please add a location, link, price, and model for any deals you find. If you happen to notice an item you posted was sold, just strike-through the price so anyone looking knows it is sold, but can still view the price it was listed at.

Cheap domestic sewing machines abound, so I'll primarily be posting reasonably-priced industrial/artisan type walking foot and compound feed machines that will power through our projects with ease.

There are some great deals out there on vintage sewing machines. Many of the ones that fit our needs are based off the Singer 16-188 (Consew 18 & 118, Chandler/Rex/Nakajima 26-188), the Singer 78-3 (Consew 28), and the Singer 111/211 machines (Consew 225 & 226, Juki LU-562 & 563, and many more!). Spare parts are still available and frequently interchangeable with modern machines.

Edit: I'm adding a list of machines I commonly see, by feed type and bobbin size, to help out prospective buyers. I'm probably missing some and will add more as I remember, but this should cover most.

Compound Feed Machines:
Needle feed, drop feed (feed dogs), alternating presser feet (walking foot)
  • Style G Bobbin: Consew 225, Consew 226 (reverse), Singer 111W101, 111W103, 111W105, 111W153, 111W155, 211G155, 211G165 (No reverse); Singer 211G156, 211G166 (Reverse); Juki LU-562 (most have reverse), Adler 67,Pfaff 145 (reverse)
  • Style M Bobbin: Consew 206 (reverse), Highlead GC 618-1 and copies (reverse); Juki LU-563, DNU-241, LU-1508, DNU-1541 (reverse); Adler 167 (reverse)

  • Style A: Consew 28

Alternating Presser Foot Machines:

  • Style A Bobbin: Singer 16-188, Consew 118 (reverse), Chandler/Rex/Nakajima 26-188 (reverse), Singer 78-3
  • Style G Bobbin:
  • Style M Bobbin: Juki DU-141, DU 1181N (reverse); Rex 11-155R (reverse); TacSew T155R (reverse)
  • Shuttle Bobbin: Singer 42-5

  • Style G Bobbin: Singer 111W100, 111W102, 111W151; Singer 112W115, 112W140 (double needle)

SOLD MACHINES:

$250
Singer 211, compound feed, unknown sub model
Consew 226 compound feed with reverse
Atlanta, GA
These machines look like they might need some cleaning up and probable adjustment, but it could be a REALLY good deal.

Singer 211G165
Near Atlantic City, NJ
$250
This is a good compound feed machine that can handle around 1/2" of material under the foot.
To clarify, a compound feed machine has feed dogs, needle feed, and alternating presser feet (walking foot). This is one of the best feed systems for sewing thick layers.

Consew 18
$350
Danbury, NC
Alternating presser foot (some say walking foot, not compound feed), no reverse.

Consew 118 (similar to above, but with reverse)
$425 $400
Menasha, WI
Higher than I would want to pay, but machine prices tend to be higher the further you get from the northeastern US.

Singer 111W155
$400
Bauxite, AR
Classic compound feed machine. No reverse, but highly capable.

Chandler (Appears to be a rebranded Rex/Nakajima 26-188)

Singer 251-22
Norridgewock, ME
Needle feed machine. I think most of these have a very short stitch length, but it wouldn't be a bad project to get your feet wet. Get a servo motor or cheap/free clutch motor to use with it, then if you decide to upgrade, just move the motor to your upgrade, or sell it.

Consew 206RB-3
$600 $480
St. Louis, MO

Havelock, NC
Needs parts, but this is a good deal on what is regarded as one of the best industrial zigzag stitch machines (can sew straight stitch too).

Juki LU-563
$320

One of the very best compound feed sewing machines you can buy. Big bobbin. Don't sleep on this deal, it will likely sell within an hour or two.

Consew CP206RL

Walnut Cove, NC
Portable alternating presser foot machine, similar to the Sailrite machines. Geared down for plenty of power.

Great price for a heavy duty alternating presser foot machine that can handle some really thick thread (like tex 350). Can be set up with 135x17 industrial needles, and the long bobbins it uses are available on eBay.

Singer 111W102

Battle Creek, MI
This is a great needle feed machine capable of handling heavy materials, however check that the stitch length regulator works properly. These old 111W machines had LH square threads on the arm shaft that the regulator rides in. These threads are often in bad shape from ham-fisted operators.

Singer 211G155
$400
Andalusia, AL

Tippmann Boss
$350
Republic, MO
This is something a little different from what I usually post. This is a manually operated machine used mostly for leather, but would do well (slowly) on heavy webbing projects. The machine can use tex 69 to tex 415 thread, with the big 7x3 needles. You could use this for leather work and holsters as well. The Boss is still made and sells for around $1300 new. If this was closer, I might be tempted.

Singer 111W153 or 155
Troy, MO
$180

Singer 20U
$200
House Springs, MO

Singer 7-31

Sew through anything you want up to 3/4"+ thick with tex 92 to 600 thread, and stitch length up to 1/2". This is a pretty good price for one.

Same as above.

Oh No. Please post listings as far away from me as possible. I thought I was done with new machines. :D
The AC, NJ machine is close enough but it doesn't look like a walking foot. Dodged a bullet. :D

For a vintage machine, it's actually one of the best walking foot machines that you can get (except no reverse). It's compound feed, so feed dogs, needle feed, and walking foot.

It's actually a little too far and the price is a little too much considering I am cash poor and sewing machine rich. :D
If it had reverse......

I'm tempted on the Consew 206rb for sale near me that I listed. It is a really good price too. I think my wife would divorce me if I bought it though since I already have a Juki 8700h. But I need a walking foot.

You don't have a walking foot? You NEED one. I was going to suggest switching the machines while she is out. Presser foot lift seems to me to be most important.

The guy selling it increased the presser foot lift, which requires a longer needle now. That Consew 206 is a beast. I really want a walking foot that can sew zig zag, but they are hard to find.

My Juki handles everything I have thrown at it so far. It would be nice to have a larger bobbin (besides the walking foot) though for 138 thread but I've become used to 92 thread.

$500. If that were closer to me I would be thinking hard. I am glad it is.....far, far away.

Start watching Facebook Marketplace. I just passed on a Juki LU 563 in PA (due to other time obligations) for around $400. Can't exactly remember the price.

Just commit

The issue that comes in are the other large purchases I need to make yet for my elk hunting trip next year. I need a frame pack (which I'll clone and resell after the trip), 125+ quart yeti or similar cooler, camp stove, and possibly some clothes.

Saw that. Someone got lucky! I'm putting a strike-through on the prices of sold items. That way guys can at least see what sort of prices they might find in their areas, but know that they're sold.
