Shikar, LWCG, or Beast Sticks?

What do you guys like the best? Have a LWCG .5 I plan on running as a hybrid platform with a saddle, but not sure what sticks to go with. Running the LWCG minis now and they’re great but want to go to a double step since I’ll be using either a 3 step or versa aider.

Love my Shikars, running a BWM 3 step aider and getting 7' per step. Started out using a versa aider and it works great, less hassle and more compact than the multi aider. Multi aider allows me to run 3 sticks instead of 4, one less stick to hang unless I want to go up to 28'.20201117_153236.jpg

what does BWM stand for? That aider looks nice -- I'd like to get one.

thx!

Thanks for the feedback! Do you find the 3 step aider much more difficult to use then the versa aider? I'm only looking to get 14-16' but trying to do it with 2 sticks.

If Id Kept my .5 the minis lock in like no other and the profile is awesome. As a system the lwcg is hard to beat. With aiders you have stand and good hunting height and minimal weight

Just my experience, but yes. I went with the 20" step spacing on the aider and wish I would have went just a tad shorter. Now I'm not as limber as some, at 51 with hip replacement back in July, but I'm using it for the height factor. You HAVE TO keep the front of your boot firmly against the tree when climbing, and climb on the high side. The versa aider goes on before climbing up and stays on until you are back on the ground, extremely compact. Maybe others will chime in with their experiences.

My cut down heliums fit just fine. If I have my pack I stack them off to the side and lock them in with one bungee. If I don't have a pack they snug right up against the seat post. I am thrilled with the 1/2 as a hybrid setup. Buck I shot Saturday with a rifle I would have been all twisted and contorted on a small platform. I simply stood up, turned around, and shot him.

I tried beast sticks and came away unimpressed at how bulky they stack. Haven't tried the others mentioned. I may try the new Tethered sticks to shave a few more pounds.

I’ve owned all three mentioned and prefer my Beast Sticks. I also use. Backwoods Mobile 2-step aider because I can’t reach high enough to warrant a third step but I usually carry 3 sticks and end up 17-18’ before setting my platform. If you’re really looking for low weight and easy to carry, try the Timber Ninjas with the cable aiders. I can get to the same height using the 2-step aider on the first stick and be almost half the weight of my Beast Sticks.

Do you think the beast sticks bite the tree better than the LWCG? Wasn’t sure how the bolt system would work for seating on the tree.

For the Ambush and .5 ... mini's with two versa aiders! Until someone comes up with a better way to attach sticks to a platform or stand, you can't beat the j-hooks IMO.

Beast sticks and shikars bite really hard. I didn’t care for LWCG sticks at all.

Thanks for the feedback - I was leaning toward the fixed version of the Shikar instead of the LWCG double step. It will attach all the same to my .5 once I strap it down.

Run the doubles with the .5 like peanut butter and jelly. May not bite as hard like the others but the combo advantage is what wins me.

Personally. The shikars had a little to much fiddle factor and the steps had a little bit more wobble than I wanted in an expensive stick.

I was not a fan at all of the lwcg doubles. Its like the wild edge step of sticks.

The custom gear minis are nice. Just enough fiddle factor for me anymore and I'd sell them.

Beast sticks have been my favorite, no step wobble, no moving parts, easy stacking, bites the tree good, stacks easy, minis pack out great on the .5 and fulls pack great on my assault 2.

But bolts and a drill are still my preferred method

Fixed shikars or ewo sticks. The LWCG and regular Shikars have to much fiddle factor for me and the beast sticks don’t have enough room for your toes.

How do the LWCG double steps do with an amsteel daisy chain?

bad... very bad... the button is too high. You don’t have them tight on the tree via cam strap or buckle less. They will kick out pretty easy and come unset. I highly recommend against using daisy chains as daisy chains on LWCG doublesteps.

Fixed Shikar or beasts for sure. Regular Shikars as others mentioned have way too much fiddle factor. I got annoyed using them in the spring when it was warm out. Couldn't imagine screwing around with them when it's 15 degrees with frozen fingers.
