Any opinions on shoot through mesh? My wife isn’t a huge fan of tree stands so I brushed in a blind last weekend. It has shoot through mesh windows but that doesn’t seem like something an arrow would travel through cleanly. Anybody have experience?

Expandable Broadheads, or fixed?
 
I would never do that. Even if they say they can be shot through, the idea of my arrow hitting anything other than the deer first makes me lose confidence. Just take out the windows it'll still conceal you enough.

Also, this is a saddle forum so if your wife isn't a fan of tree stands then get her a saddle!!! :tearsofjoy:
 
Only one way to know for sure but I probably would've tested it before I got it brushed in out in the woods. A lot of variables from blind to blind and broadhead to broadhead.
 
She’s scared of the heights not the stand. She wouldn’t hunt again if I made her get in a saddle.

I did some practicing out of my blind last year and had no troubles with flight with my fixed broad heads.

It’s nice but the clarity and inability to use a range finder is the worst part to me. I usually have a few main shooting lanes with no mesh and the rest I leave the mesh on.

If she is shooting fixed blades it should be ok, make sure the netting is drum tight. If you are still concerned, shoot out of the mesh a time or two with her hunting broadheads so she will be comfortable and have confidence in the situation.
 
My Double Bull ground blind has shoot through mesh and never had a problem shooting fix broadheads through it.
 
Years ago, I killed a few deer shooting fixed blades through mesh. But I eventually started just opening the windows. The only problem I ever had was when the upper limb of my bow hit the top of the blind, throwing my shot off. I totally missed the doe I was aiming at, but killed a different doe! One of my buddies said, “I want to hunt with the preacher. He’s hunting with divine intervention!” True enough... I didn’t deserve that deer. But God gave it to me anyway.

I wouldn’t recommend it with mechanicals. A premature opening will make the arrow curve terribly off target. I once bought some cheap Chinese mechanicals and shot them out of my 225 lb. crossbow. It was like shooting a boomerang! Scary! A stronger shock collar solved the problem. That might also work for shooting through mesh. But opening the window is easier.

Same here. Only way to know for sure is practice it before actually hunting.
 
She'll be fine with fixed blades. We always shot with the netting hanging limp with good results.

Definitely practice to check point of impact as well as getting the arrow to clear through the window. Lots of blinds get shot and deer missed every season from not taking into account that the arrow is leaving the bow several inches below your line of sight.

100% agree with CamoMan - never shoot an arrow with a broad head through anything and expect accuracy. My guess is that if there were taught mesh and you were shooting perfectly perpendicular through it with let's say a fixed blade 1 1/8 inch cut head, it likely wouldn't alter the flight, but with loose mesh and from any angle, no way would I trust it to not deflect to some extent. Also the lighter the poundage the more apt to alter the flight.
