What would you suggest? Have regular single panel as well as jx3 saddles.

I have only tried the Pioneer steps using a over center buckle. They do flex a little bit. I would think that if you use the ratchet strap it would be more firm. I have never tried the regular steps only the Pioneer because of the pacability. Jx3 for me. Cheaper than squirrel steps. I use 4 steps but if I were to do it over again I think I would get 6

Is this for climbing or ring of steps? If for climbing and using the stock cam buckle straps, I cannot recommend the regular steps. Unless you are a ninja, they flip over on you and move around on the tree, even if you watch the 45 minutes of online instructions available.

I used Flex Seal and I sprayed 2 coats, amd I went with Eastern Woods outdoors Cam over strap and git rid of the heavy noisy ratchet strap. That strap that cams over is AMAZING and gets so tight. Tighter than the bug ratchet somehow and it's easy to pop off when you want too. Also quick connects.

Ok, I've never used them for ring of steps with an OCB or ratchet, but I don't hear the same complaints about the polymer ones for that.

I will say that the polymer seems very strong.

It's the ring of steps, however I bought the EWO strap that cams over. It's not the steps. It's under the platform for saddle hunters. They show them as aluminum..the wrap didn't work for me so I used flex seal to coat them worked great

I tried flex seal but it didn't adhere as well as I'd hoped......

So when ever you use flex seal 2 important things to know. It doesn't want to adhear to painted surfaces and paint doesn't stick to it. Get ACETONE and scrub them realllllly really good. Then do a final wipe w acetone before you hang them for spray. I use BOW STEING serving to hang them. Other wise the nails or screws or hooks get adhered to them to causing a dead spot after they cure or rips it off. W serving the serving gets coated and you can cut the serving off flush to the piece and let it remain in the coating. Also wait 24 hours between coats super important or it won't cure right. Make sure the surface is super clean before you spray and make sure you wait that 25hrs before a second coat. You can do 3 or four coats if you wish, but its important you put them on even and not too heavy each coat so it cures 100% between coats. If you do that it's amazing stuff. Mine hasn't rubbed off w 2 coats and that EWO strap gets them TIGHT to the tree.

You used the spray? I tried dipping them in the can since the spray goes on so thin.

Yes? After failed plasti dip and the big globs and runs... I knew it wasn't gonna turn out well so I immediately removed it. The good thing about the spray going on in thinner layers is you can build it up, with out it being toooooo much off the bat. Yes I use the Spray. I did 3 total layers even though 2 even was enough I just did a third so I wouldn't need to do any maintenance sprays atleast until preseason next year and so far those 3 coats have not chipped off. Here they are...

I can't speak to the regular steps but I have been running a set of 7 pioneer steps with an Eastern Woods Outdoors OCB strap this season and really like it. The OCB gets them very tight. The trick, especially on softer trees like a pine with spongy bark, is to cam them a bit, then let off and pull out some slack, then cam over again. When you hear that click sound you know it is tight. They will press down just a bit when you put your weight on them but then they are set. Initially I wrapped mine in some camo form tape and it did OK but I got Petflex brand vet wrap in camo and it has worked great. It binds very tight to the aluminum and hasn't unraveled at all.

Good deal man! I've used vet wrap couple times? But our hardwoods grind holes in that wrap like nothing. That's why I started spraying mine with flex seal. I like the tip for the partial cam, then slack it, then cam lock it. That's a really good tip

I hunt a good many hardwoods too. The Petflex works very well and has held up. I got it for $2.25 at the Coop and it is very clingy. I like it. I thought about the flex seal and may try that. It looks like a great idea. I also thought about putting some of that non slip adhesive backing made for stairs on the back of the steps to give them some bite into the bark.

The cam buckle trick I saw on Nutterbuster's Youtube channel. I can't take credit.

This is also the best way yet I have found to pack everything. This picture is early season when I was running 3 Lone Wolf sticks with and aider and 5 steps on the OCB. The aider doubles as the shoulder strap for carrying. I was only getting 15 feet to my ROS so I added another Lone Wolf stick and that gave me room to use two more steps on the set up. I can get 20 feet with this without stretching. I like having those 2 additional steps. Having 7 means I can put two near one another in the spot where I plan to spend most of my time and that helps spread out the weight. I sit mostly so probably 80% of my weight is in my saddle and each foot gets maybe 10%. It's a work in progress.

That's a great looking set up. I plan to give one sticking a try in the spring.
