Smells that take you back.

Lmao idk what you’re talking about, skint to pot is what happens to the first few killed for the year. The only thing I can’t skin and eat the same day is nutria sometimes rabbits also.

Whoa hold up! You just put Nutria and eat in the same sentence. Isn’t the whole name for it a Nutria Rat? That’s got to be a Louisiana thing.

Yeah we don’t have nutria around here but I’ve had a muskrat problem in our pond and those get shot then a proper burial. I hear they’re stinky but I have not made an effort to verify.
Funny with catfish, I don’t have any problem with them. I don’t know if I’ve ever eaten them fresh, they just go in the freezer as a habit.
I’ve never hunted squirrel but I’m tempted. Often.

Yes indeed but it’s not like an every day or even every year thing it’s a every now and again thing lol I’d much prefer squirrel.

My brother who doesn’t hunt had muskrat one time and he tells tale of their culinary virtues whenever prompted. I myself shudder to think. But I’d eat it if you put a bowl of muskrat chili in front of me. Just tell me up front it’s muskrat, I don’t do mystery meats.
I have missed a handful of squirrels and never tried one as a result. Would love to. Sometimes I think I subconsciously miss them on purpose. But I can’t tell if they stink or not. Fat fox squirrels around here, versus the skinny grays I grew up with.
Rabbit is freaking delicious. Add that critter to a pot of tomato sauce and ladle that rabbit ragu over some pasta, and “Mah-dohn” that’s-a tasty-a treat!

Okay, smells that take me back…
Buck Bomb fingers (I swore that crap worked even though I never saw one deer)
Fresh Earth wafers and detergent by Scent-A-Way
Oak bark dust on a rope
Deer entrails (weirdly satisfying to me. Funny tidbit, last deer I shot, I started farting the same smell as the deer’s entrails. Sympathetic flatulence or something like that)
