South carolinaGotcha. Is there like a state you guys are talking about at least? Usually any meet ups are really far away from me so was just curious how far this one might be.

Are there any seasoned hunters that would be willing to set aside a day one weekend to help a few of us newbs? What i know that is needed right now is someone with the experience looking for sign, finding that sign and coming up with a plan to execute based off that sign. Bowhunterchuck What about you? would you feel like helping us out?
I can see something coming together for sure here. I like it. Should we do it in next couple weeks while they are still on winter patterns if this is a winter pattern lolI’ll give it a try......

Westdesign03, Sorry for the confusion in my post. It started off as a basic question on scouting since i dont have a lot of knowledge in that area and I'm still green when it comes to hunting. Then someone suggested that a few of us local SC hunters get together with a seasoned hunter that might be willing to help us Green hunters for this up and coming season.
I’d buy a compass.
I haven't seen this mentioned yet so I'll give it to you straight. Forget all the "big buck" mumbo jumbo you see on TV. Find yourself some oaks putting down acorns, or beech trees putting down beech nuts, or apple trees putting down apples, or some turnips in a field, or some clover, or briars that looked like they've been bit off, then look for some fresh deer poop. If you can find this thing(s) along an edge of some sort, set up downwind and kill something.
Corners of fields. Find the trails that come out into a field in the back corner then back up into the woods some. Heck, if its thick on the field edge where it meets the woods, set up downwind and kill something.
Go small game hunting and pay attention to what you are seeing. You get into some rabbits you might also be in some good deer territory. Go turkey hunting. In my experience, deer and turkeys will frequent many of the same areas and play lookout for each other. This is why a few soft yelps on a mouth call can gain you a little ground with deer. You find a rather large area on a hillside where the turkeys are tearing it up feeding, very strong chance deer are hitting it too. Set up downwind and kill something.
Walk the banks on creeks and find where the deer are crossing. You will KNOW when you find a good crossing, there won't be a couple tracks, or a few, they will have the crossing beat into the mud and torn up. Set up downwind and kill something.
Last, and follow along here, you want to get good at killing stuff, you have to kill stuff. I know that sounds obvious, but brother, there is a whole generation of folks that think killing deer equates to some stupid number of antler inches. Antlers are cool, and I have several on the wall, but I also enjoy the heck out of eating and I'll fill every tag I have.
It would be awesome to make some out of state hunting buddies! No problem lol. SC is pretty far away for me to attend. Hope you guys are able to meet up and learn from each other.

I have a couple that hunt and they all use a rifle. I’m trying to stick one with the bow first.Yes it would! My problem is I don’t even have any in-state hunting buddies lol. I’m the only one that really hunts that I know around here. I have one other friend that MIGHT come hunt with me once a year if I’m lucky.
