Looks like we missed the application cut off for this year. I asked. I got on the page to apply logged in and the apply option went away. Has phase 2 already closed or something?

I remember a couple years ago they waited to 3rd phase and put up the whitetail tags first come first serve....I imagine a bunch of people back out at the last moment

I was thinking the whitetail permit may be the way to go for the first visit/hunt.

May need to call the state. I thought it was group average but the website says cumulative points… so a group of 5 guys with 2 points each have a low average but a 10 point cumulative… seems very unfair if that group gets drawn before a single guy with 8 points. Every other quota that I’ve done is based on point average, so it’s fair, there’s still some advantage to being in a group but it’s more minimal.

I have a couple buddies gaining points now, but we aren’t in a rush because it always falls during our rut trip.

No returns on that hunt, so if you get drawn after damn near a decade you gotta make it happen!

Flats boat is fine, it’s only like a 1/4 mile to the island from the ramp. So you can make a couple trips if you need to. We left our bikes and stands locked up on the island by the camp and just shot over with guns only on the hunt mornings.

Anchor your boat off the beach a little to account for tide.

Just Found this too. So you def don’t want a guy that just started applying to join your group, drops the odds for everyone.

Dang...I'm out. Hahah I've never applied there so I would have zero or do the preference points from other quotas count toward? I guess ur right...I probably should call someone who knows for sure
 
Sambar is it’s own application and point, so points for deer, turkey, whatever would not be able to count towards it.

I figure I’ll only get to hunt it 2 maybe 3 times in my life at this point, assuming 8 years per draw (which may be getting some point creep now) . So yeah, if you think you want to hunt it better start applying and building points.

Some posts I was following on a FB group. I wish Florida would just posts stats so you could see your likelihood based on points, like Georgia and others.

I know I’ve been denied 2 years in a row , so not sure how those guys got it consecutively.

That's been my fear for applying.... If I got it, I kinda don't have the equipment to get over there and I won't have enough cash to pay the local charter guy...I'll start signing up regardless from now on and just wait and see.
 
There are leftovers for that hunt, if the people that got drawn don’t claim their tag by a certain date then they go open to anyone FCFS , which I imagine sells out in seconds.

So still I’d say it’s really tough to get it 2 years in a row

I’m pushing the limits of the muzzleloader and he’s behind a bunch of shrubs so I followed the outline where I think the shoulder should be and right as I pulled the trigger I swung a little and missed. Interpretation: I would have got him if I was in my buddy’s summit :sweatsmile:

I may be down, if some of u wanted to start a sambar group next yr and plan on zero pref pts but would have several yrs to learn about it, figure out boat situation and could do some whitetail hunts there in the meantime

I couldn't make this 1 this year even if I wanted to because of family junk....if I didn't have to do that stuff I would secretly apply for the same hunt and then proceed to wait for ur updates true stalker style and then show up to the boat launch without ur knowledge and then after u launch, scurry onboard and be a stowaway and then update SH live from the saddle 2021 with a pic of ur camp.....jk..haha....but my overactive imagination thinks that's hilarious and a wonderful idea.....
Please take some pics and do a write up here on SH if u end up going on that hunt
