Starting my own DIY Mantis/Kite

Just my $0.02 but I think you build a similar test stitch, saddle, whatever and test that one for inspection and adjust as needed. I dont think you should test the one you're planning on sitting in potentially exposing it to a second shock if you were to fall.

Not making much progress on the saddle itself, but I did stitch together this small dump pouch. I think im going to make 1-2 more, but a bit larger.

What is the saddle material you selected? I have a sewing machine coming this month or next.

What makes it mantis/kite? just the lighter materials or you specifically taking features of each for a more powerful offspring?

It is a thread injector, not a sewing machine!

Started sewing the saddle together tonight. I have a lot to add to it, but took my first sit in it hanging from the support beam in my basement.

Looks like you are off to a great start. Gotta give props to all of the DIYers our there. I just made my own, but I also bought a Tethrd mantis and got it in today. Haven’t hunted either one yet to see which one I like better

Doing some preliminary testing. I am about 1/3 done with the saddle. I am going to be adding support stitching in a few places, and then I'll be adding the molle webbing, lineman's loops, leg straps and a waist belt. I wanted to test it out with the bare minimum stitching to check for deformity of the stitching after a load.

It's pretty comfortable, although to be fair it's the only saddle I've sat in. I went for a 33 inch bridge to reduce risk of hip pinch which seems to have worked.

My main purpose of this saddle build is to test the system for myself before going wholesale into purchasing a saddle from tethrd or aerohunter. I know that I could buy one, test it out, and sell it no problem if I don't like it, but I'm a DIY'er to the bone, and love learning new skills.
