3 Rivers Archery have these on sale, for $19.99, so I picked up a couple of 3 packs. :cool: Steel Force Hellfire 200 gr. with a steel ferrule.
I'm going to test drive them with my ILF recurve and ILF longbow, on a broadhead target and see how they fly out of both bows, tomorrow. ;)

Has anyone used these for deer hunting?
What were your results? :)

I don’t see how you can go wrong at that price. 3:1 ratio, steel ferrules…… have fun.

I never killed nothing with 1. The vent makes them a little noisier flying. I can't really say anything negative or positive cause haven't really used them much....i anticipate big giant boar hogs with thick shields so I've kinda fully transitioned to solid, 1 piece broadheads. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them at deers thou. I don't think mine have the bleeders but maybe they do and I'm not remembering correctly

Hunted some with a guy several years ago that shot a steel force head that looked like that one but I think his were alum. ferrules. IIRC, he killed several deer with them. The only issue I recall was he had a couple with some tip bend from big bone impact.

ive had solid vpa's do that also. i would go with tonto tips except that i hunt stupid low draw weight, i think yer good with these, like weld said above, they may be a little noisier, but ...

Easy to sharpen penetrates real good 3.1 ratio makes a decent blood trail as 2 blades go. Killed a ton of deer with them over the years Most time 1 shot per deer as it passes thru and always hit a rock or stump for me. When and if I can fix it I use them for coyotes or small game

I'm having a serious change of heart and/or mind about this broadhead and it all stems from not being able to get the damn things apart, to sharpen them. :mad: I've got 6 of them to go thru and sharpen and I've already spent too much time on disassembly, for 2 of them. o_O Nutz!

I ordered a cheap "magnus" copy broadhead for $23 for a dozen in a plastic case, last year. They're super easy to disassemble and hold an edge with their 40 thousands thick main blade. I recall putting them through some "torture" tests with 1/2" plywood and a steel drum with good results. All I have to do is run them across a leather strop and they're good to go. :cool: As of right now, it looks like the "cheap chinese" copy is beating out the Steel Force with ease. :rolleyes:

After about 40 strokes on each side of the main blade, on the leather strop with the KME sharpening tool, these broadheads slice through a piece of paper with no resistance. :cool:

I spent some time on the broadhead that was shot into the steel drum with the bent tip and made a tanto tip out of it. :) The photo doesn't do it justice, as it does have a sharpened point on it. I used a mil file for the tip, then put it on a Lansky to sharpen the edges and finished it up on a leather strop. :cool: It turned out better than I'd hoped. I may make a few more.

I ordered a 3-pack of 300gr Steelforce left-bevels to go on a couple of extra shafts I've got, and to go with my stock halfouts. Haven't assembled the shafts yet but they seem stout, and my scale says they're all within a couple of grains of each other. IIRC Schwacker bought them out a few years ago so presumably they know what they're doing as far as manufacturing these things goes.

@Iron_llama
I appreciate the info on Steel Force being bought out, as I had no idea who purchased the company. :)
I should've went with the single bevels, in the Steel Force. :rolleyes: I was attempting to stay with the Grizzly single bevel, but 3 Rivers Archery is sold out of the 200 gr. models and are not taking any back orders.

A 300 gr. single bevel will hit with some serious authority. :cool:

That's the theory!

Under the influence of fairy dust I've accumulated 3 Grizzlies, 3 Steel Force, and 6 Maasais. All on 240 spine 5mm Axis shafts. All 375gr up front, all 735gr TAW. My curiosity is regarding the balance between heavy inserts vs broadheads, and external footers. And now with a bum thumb, perhaps sprinkling fairy dust on crossbow bolts.

@Iron_llama
That's not a bad influence to be under. :) I've been shooting a heavy arrow setup for 3 years now and have no intentions of going back to anything light weight. The pass thru shots are enough to keep me hooked for life. :cool:
My ILf Hoyt Satori 19" riser has Uukha Gobi limbs, at 45#. The arrows are Gold Tip Traditional XT 500 spine, with 3" feathers, 200 gr. tip weight, at 29" and have a 490 TAW with a 20% FOC. I'll be using single bevel Steel Force 175 gr. with a 20 gr. internal weight to match the field tip weight. I also have some 150 gr. Grizzly single bevels that I'll add a 50 gr. internal weight, to match the 200 gr. field tip weight. I've already shot these broadheads and the flight is excellent. Resharpened them all and waiting deer season, on Sept. 30th. :cool:

Last year I was shooting an Elite Ritual 30, at 57# @ 29" DL. Arrows are Gold Tip Hunter XT 300 spine, 100 gr. brass insert, 150 gr. tip weight, 3" feathers, at 27" for a 525 TAW and 22% FOC. I killed a doe with a Grizzly single bevel and a buck with a Magnus Buzzcut with this setup.

Steelforce single bevel were the first head I ever mounted but never shot one. I also had some 4 blades.
I had similar issue - I could easily take apart the single bevel with the tool, but had no need to do so! However the 4 blade was impossible to take apart to sharpen. They did not come sharp enough to hunt with.
I can't say I would ever buy Steelforce again.
