Step platform users

^^^ I agree with Swampsnyper, I've attached my Ameristeps on a ratchet strap with bedded deer close by and had no problems. Just take your time. I was going to try the OCB at one time but realized that I'm fine with the ratchet strap so I never did bother with it. I also use my ring of steps to hold stuff on my pack as well.

The strap wants to roll over the edge and not stay squared where it weaves in and out of the buckle and that doesn’t let it snap shut. Trying to hold that square on cam over and have your steps stay where you want them is a pain on some trees. Then there is the issue on small trees that the cam buckle is where you need a step or takes up too much room to have steps evenly spaced.
I put up with it and make it happen, but there has to be a better way. Sometimes I wish I had a ratchet strap.
Eventually I'm making a video. I know what you're saying but I've pretty much got all that solved. Sometimes it wants to roll over but I just reset it.
Another advantage of the boat buckle is its size. It is so tiny compared to a ratchet strap!

I was talking to my wife about various platforms I've been trying out, XOP, Primal step with a 3/4" board, my son's Predator, WE Stepps with a 5/8" board, etc. I mentioned to her that years ago we had bought some Ameristeps, but that I couldn't find them. Well this afternoon, she started digging around and turned up five of them!
Tomorrow I'll be looking for a boat buckle strap or a ratchet strap. This just in time. Our season opens this weekend.

I use ameristeps or screw in steps. I can not bring my self to use a platform.

She is a keeper!

I used a ring of steps last year and also screw in steps. This year I bought a predator and have been trying to love it. Truth is, when I use a ring of steps I am super comfortable leaning and sitting. When I use the predator(platform) it puts me at a weird angle where I have to put my knees against the tree and it isn't a comfortable angle to lean either. I find myself sitting sideways with my hips against the tree to get comfortable. I didn't have this problem with a ring of steps. I think the predator is well made and it is rock solid but I am not sure it is for me. I will probably keep it in case my son or brother likes it and let them use it but for me I think two wild edge steps as a platform from here on.

I have 4 to 5 ameristep on a ratchet strap and I have no problem with my feet hurting. I have used the steps for years. I bought a bunch of ameristep years ago when Sportmans Warehouse was closing. Got them at a great price and they were all none recall.

Been tinkering with some diy steps and since this thread is largely the audience for such a thing, just wanted to link to it here: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/ameristep-alternative-feasible.7906/

The version I posted this evening (9/16) seems to work really well, but I’m sure others could point out flaws or offer enhancements. I haven’t added up the hardware I bought, but I’m guessing they’re somewhere around $5/step, if that.

Posted these awhile back. Have had them for awhile now and never got around to using them Bc I just always used my ameristeps.

Kind of hard to see but they also have a spike that keeps it from slipping against the tree.

Might give em a whirl this season

Those are cool wondering if they still make those...lol probably not!!

I posted before wondering if anyone has ever seen em or knows who makes them. No luck....but a pretty good garage sale pick up for me lol I believe I got them for $5 for 4

All I use is the Ameristeps on a strap. Last year I use a boat buckle but this year I’m going with a smaller ratchet strap. I kept having to wrestle with the boat buckle coming lose and I got pretty tired of that. I’m pretty sure I can work the ratchet pretty quietly and I know it will hold a lot tighter.
