Steps on straps vs. WE steps as platform

I tinkered with my WE steps over the weekend. Played with the platform idea from the wild edge guys. I think the problem is not so much the step but the ropes. My experience with camming over rope systems is that it can be trial and error. I was able to get them tight and level, but they were doing a number on the elm bark I was testing them on. I may use them with my XOP platform. Verdict is still out, but the WE steps show tons of promise.

FWIW i never liked strap on steps ie: ameristeps. Clumsy, clunky, loud... I have a set of 4 that i have been sitting on. I might unload them soon-ish. Got a pair of hip boots I want to buy.

I like the stepps and an aider for climbing, but it can be frustrating trying to set them up as a platform. They are rock solid IF you get them set right, but doing that can be problematic at dark:30 in the morning. I am eagerly awaiting their platform option.

In the meantime I've gone back to a ring of steps with an OCB. I generally carry 7 stepps and 5 Ameristeps.

I practiced with the WE steps, aider and platform over the weekend. I have 12 steps and using the aider I was able to get 24-28 feet up and had 3 steps for a platform and a sacrificial step to climb into the platform. So I really climbed with 8 steps to the platform. I figured out I can use my treestrap to climb into the platform and eliminate the sacrificial step after I got down. The platform wasn’t perfectly level which was no problem at all. I am still getting used to these steps and starting to find the right tension before snapping them down. I think the lone Wolf sticks are quicker but having something to stand on with both feet is the bees knees. The more I use the WE steps the more I like em.
