Thinking about giving the Oplux a try and am deciding on which prusik cord I want to use. Been reading about the 6mm TRC and Beal Jammy but also found one from Bluewater that looks interesting and wanted some input on it before making a purchase. Not going with anything mechanical I don't think. Thanks for your input guys!

Those are significantly weaker than Jammy (which would be the direct comparison) (12.4kn). How strong/weak do you want the weakest link in your chain to be? What hitch are you looking at? I haven't gotten oplux yet (although I do have a supply of both TRC and the Beal aramide cord that the jammy is made from) The Beal cord is noticably more compact and lighter. It cinches down nice and tight, and seems to release a tended distel well enough even on 9mm htp which I cam currently testing with.

Definitely want everything in the system to be strong enough to keep me as safe as possible. Haven't really decided on a particular hitch but was leaning towards just the basic prusik. Just wanted to explore all my options before settling on an option.

I use a Beal jammy on my lineman’s belt in conjunction with a tender. Works good except when the ropes get wet. Then it sucks. I use a kong on my tether. Played with jammy in prusik and a distel hitch. Distel worked best. Ended up just using the kong. It just works too good.

X 2 on the kong Duck. Just didn't like the jammy and felt the diesel hitch was just too busy.

I have a few of those, I prefer Sterling TRC or the Beal Cordelette (DanO sells both by the foot) in the Distel or Schwabisch configuration on my OpLux.

If you want to use a Prusik, the 35cm Beal Jammy would be hard to beat.

Thanks for the input and available options. I think I'll order up a few of the Jammys and some TRC to play with to see what I like best. Probably hold onto the Blue waters just in case I can find a use for them.

Weekender21 question I'm new at this but doing a lot of looking around. In your photo it shows the carabiner large end up away from the bridge shouldn't it be down on the bridge so that your screwing the lock gate down or does it not matter please don't take offense at the question just trying to learn the correct way so that when I do get my flex I start off right. Also apologizing in advance if I'm asking this question in the wrong area kind of new to forums in general.

That's not my pic but I bet it's oriented that way to keep the knots from stacking and away from the gate hinge. If you're on the long axis you're gtg. Look here for more info:

Bow13, excellent observation. Any long axis orientation would work fine but you are correct, it is generally preferred to have the gate open onto the bridge. As you can see in the picture I’m at ground level and was trying different things to see what I liked best. It was actually easier switching out between the Beal cord and Sterling TRC clipping into the eyes vs. bridge. My actual set up is reversed.

Bottom line, as long as you’re not cross loading the carabiner you’re fine.

Thanks for the response so much to learn so little room left in the memory bank but I'm keeping notes

I’m glad you brought it up. Makes me realize that more can be taken away from a picture than what was intended. I need to be more thoughtful prior to posting pictures!
