Strange occurances in the woods

Sorry for the long post...hang with it....
This strange thing didnt happen in the woods, but the story starts there........A few years ago a buddy and I go for a hunt in the late split bow season here in Iowa, just a couple days before Christmas. We had just had two days of snow let up that morning and knew the afternoon hunt would be terrific. We both had hung stands in a small wood lot surrounded by draws, treeline and two corn fields nearby. We can barely see each other from our stands and his is slightly closer to the field edge than mine. The deer pour out into that cornfield with at least a 7 or 8 shooters.
A little before dark the deer are at the field edge, I rattle a little and the big guys come right to my friend, he arrows a very nice 9 point. We start to try to drag out the deer but with our gear and especially with about 18 inches of snow on the ground we dont make it 30 yards. We decided to take our bows and gear back to the truck and come back. On the way back to the truck we see off in the distance a couple of people riding snow mobiles. That's when I had a great idea.

I tell my buddy let's go find those guys and pay them to drag out his deer. He thinks thats an awesome plan so we get into the truck and go looking. About a half mile down the road around a corner we see some snow machines in a drive way. We go down the drive and up to a large garage. Go to the small door and knock. It is opened and we begin to explain who we are and what we wanted. As we are doing that I start to notice what is inside. (This all happens in less than a minute as we talk)
First I notice a really large window on one wall to the left. On the other side of the window is the kitchen. Odd.
Then I see a couch in front of a big screen TV, kinda randomly there in this big garage. Then I start to notice a fenced in area at the back of the garage with what looks like a bed and a broke down recliner chair in it. There was this animal lying on the bed, and one hopping around, and another sitting in the chair.........wait are those kangaroos? Yep, this family had 6 kangaroos in their garage. They were just hanging out with them in their garage. Totally blew me away.....very surreal.

Oh and the guy dragged out my buddies deer for free.
They dragged your deer out as hush money, I think you might've blew it for next time!!

I've never told this story online...just to family. However this buggered me something fierce. About 10 years ago, I had a piece of property that was 40 acres. I was walking down the trail...and I was late. As I crossed the creek and came up the small hill to a field I heard, and felt a roar that I've never heard before. It was so loud and powerful that I felt it in my chest. I froze just on the edge of the field and my attention was drawn to a tree that I had hunted the previous year...but what drew my attention was a feeling that danger was there...serious danger. I spent 10 years in the Marines and army as an infrantry man and have never heard that type of roar before and only since when I got home and did some research. I had my .45 on me at the time (private land in Illinois) and pulled my buck knife. As I stated, my attention was drawn to this tree about 60 yards away, every hair on my body was standing on end and the goosebumps where everywhere. The strongest feeling of a presence in my mind was telling me to turn around and go back to the truck...I however being a stubborn Marine refused to do so. I don't know why I said what I said, but I spoke outloud to the tree..."I mean you no harm and will go to the west if you go the other direction." I then felt at peace...and walked to my stand. That day there was no sounds in the woods...and I mean not even a squirrel was moving...no birds chirping...nothing. What was strange (actually stranger) was a few times before and the season before I had heard loud wood knocking...in the direction of where I felt my attention was being drawn to. After I said what I said...I felt as though the presence at that tree had left (goosebumps hitting me now) and I went off to my stand.

When I got home, I look on the bigfoot website and looked at illinois. Sure enough there are sightings in the town that I was hunting next to and the next town over. Again, this roar was like nothing I've ever heard and don't want to hear it again. The tree that my attention was drawn to was not the base of the tree, but about 10-12 feet up the tree...like what was watching me was at that level.

That’s incredible. Ive read very similar reports on other forums. That they could FEEL the roar. Wow thanks for sharing and Semper Fi.

Seriously, listen to some of the YouTube videos from howtohunt.com
Don’t listen to just one, but listen to a few before making judgement.

It is just him relating info., but, at least to me, it is compelling enough to listen to and research. And he is a hunter and hunting guide, that should give him some credence in our minds. At the very least, you can come back here and say sojourner is nuttier than a squirrel turd. Otherwise, it may give you something to think about.

Watched some of howtohunt.com's stories on Youtube last night. I'm not saying his stories aren't interesting, but it's still just not something I buy into I guess. I won't argue or call others crazy who have their stories/experiences and try to tell them they are wrong or show me proof. But, as for me, if I believed something that terrifying was out in the wilderness, there is no way that I would go out in those remote sections of Canada/Alaska where this guy if hunting.

Now that story about the naked ladies skiing out in the middle of nowhere, that is some great and funny stuff there.

I went down the rabbit hole & watched 4-5 of his videos. I would have to experience something like that myself to believe it. But I’m not gonna disparage others b/c I cannot disprove it either.....

I've watched his videos before as well on my quest for semi credible Bigfoot advocates, i feel like he's being honest when he tells his stories, but I don't feel I can believe it til I see it.

Part of me says there is a definite possibility of a large ape or human subspecies that is reclusive, possibly because of the age when all human subspecies were being bred out or killed.

Part of me says we would have some sort of physical evidence to prove its existence, a car accident or a hunter coming across one and killing it.

I don't believe much in taped evidence, too easy to make a semi realistic fake.

I have yet to watch the video about the lady skiers.

What is more interesting is reading all the comments on his videos. Yeah, some are way out there. But his videos sure do resonate with others.

I have never had any experience with anything remotely supernatural in the woods and I hope I never do.

Let see:
Busted groups of Ptarmigan multiple times, they take off like helicopters feet from you. Multiple strokes there.
Cousins and I were bear hunting up in the mountains outside Girdwood back home(Alaska). We tracked this brown bear up and down the mountain and happened upon some human foot tracks. Followed those for a bit and realized they were our boot prints. Then realized the bear had taken us in a loop and was tracking us tracking it. Retired to camp after that.
Another time hunting Ptarmigan out in Nikiski on the Kenai peninsula (again, Alaska) by an old abandon military outpost. Again with my cousins were walking around and kept getting the neck crawlies. We started hearing a girl screaming. We looked around like scared teenagers with guns would do and didn't find anything, not any evidence of anyone even being there in years. There are tons of stories of kids committing suicide out there and cults using it. We never went back.
Another time moose hunting in Alaska my cousin shot a moose(ever notice your cousins get you in trouble) and we tracked it to were he saw it fall, probably 400 yards. This was in an alpine environment with marsh type ground so he saw it fall. We tracked it to were it fell in a group of trees and when we got to it it was gone. Huge blood trail, huge ground disturbance were it had fallen, huge pool of blood and then nothing. Like it flew away. We found some other tracks leading away from the kill, human in form but waaay larger. I'm not saying it was bigfoot but....
And my all time favorite. My cousin and I were snow machining late at night on the wildlife refuge behind my house. It was around midnight and we had stopped to look at the northern lights. We must have gotten so engrossed in watching cuz we didn't even hear the caribou herd coming until we were in their midst. The herd literally walked a round us, about a 50 head herd. It was so surreal, this caribou herd walking slowly while we were sitting their watching the northern lights. It was like a Nat Geo show. That's probably my best outdoor memory.
I am so jealous i have always wanted to live in Alaska!!!!

So one of my coworkers wanted to go deer hunting. We had both dove hunted together, seemed cool enough..so we went. He had been working the night shift that week, so he stopped by and picked me up. So for the 45 minute drive we listened to Art Bell and some alien abduction stories and arrived at our parking area on the darkest night i have seen. really didnt want to leave the truck. Then as were going in he starts singing the" ballad of the greys". We havent been hunting since.

Near here the creepiest thing is the Vergas Trails, the worst part is I live not a mile from them. There is two different sections, the north where I live and the south which i haven't been brave enough to enter after dark. The reason it's so terrifying is the Hairy Man of Vergas. He is a humanoid creature around 7-8 feet tall with lots of hair and few facial features that has always been seen barefoot (which is odd for MN). He is usually seen in the south end being that the north is more populated. There has been reports of sightings since the early 70's including one man who had the hood of his vehicle bashed in by a "human-ape-like creature."
The origin story that I find the most realistic is the old farmer. There was a farmer and his family that lived in the south end. The farmer was clinically insane, which they did do anything about at he time, so his wife was going to run away with the children. When the wife never contacted anyone and missed her weekly run to town the police went out to check on them. All they found was the heads of the wife and two children in the barn and the farmer was never seen since. You can still see the remnants of that old barn, which is near the abandoned highway. If you're interested there is plenty of articles on it and a TV crew from SyFi did an episode on it.
In the north end the creepiest thing is the hidden cemetery. There is a real old run down cemetery out there too but the hidden cemetery is one that just appears in random places at night. A friend of mine and i snowmobile on these trails a lot since we each live on opposite sides and meet in the middle. One night we both saw it in it's glowing wonder. we didn't stop until we were back in the yard.
The last thing we saw out there was a creepy doll we expect some joker left out there. It had a black cross on its head and its eyes were blacked out. For good measure we put an old arrow in it and promptly left. It wasn't there the next day...

Yea I've heard those stories too, your only about half hour from me. Hunted the public woods in that area a few times but never seen anything odd myself.

Heard a few branch breaks that were way too loud for a deer, but never saw anything.

@ZHunter I hunt by Staples in the big woods sometimes too, very similar stories about something in the woods from that area too, but not so much as a peep while I've been in the woods.

What a great thread! Haven’t read through them all yet but I definitely will. Here’s one that comes to mind every time this subject comes up:
I’m on the pricier river fly fishing in late September (prairie river in Lincoln county Wisconsin). Working my way down with a hopper dropper and doing pretty good. Nothing huge but all above average fish and picking up about one per hole. As I get to the next hole I’m standing on a stream improvement berm watching the water to decide where to make my presentation. I’d probably been standing there for 5 minutes or so. Enough time to have taken the entire scene in. My feet are just in the water as I don’t want to disturb anything I don’t know is there. Suddenly form the other side of the bank the water explodes! The best way I can describe it is that there is a wave of white bubble filled water with an obvious bulge in the middle coming right at me. The bulge wasn’t small either raising the water level about 10” over the river. I had zero time to react. By the time I jumped out of the way whatever it was disappeared into a hole (I’m guessing) under the water line directly under my feet. Now, I’m sure that it was either a rat, river otter or beaver that was hiding in the bank opposite me right. But this was weird as ****. I mean right at me. In the moment I thought for sure I was under attack. Of course in the moment that wall of water also seemed to be a couple feet tall but I’m judging it at about 10” because we when that fight or flight reaction hits we can all see things a bit bigger then they are. It was enough for me to call it an evening and head back to the truck for an adult soda. I’ve seen rats go rushing away in a torrent. I’ve seen beavers give a slap and be gone. All the otters I’ve ever seen give you a show and then swim away like they own the place. I don’t know for sure what tf that thing was but in the moment I was scared as ****.
