Team 10 Thread

I found an area with some pretty good buck sign. Its just riddled with scrapes and decent rubs. Problem is it is in a difficult spot to hunt due to the predominate wind direction. Its on a three way edge where approx 60 yo hardwoods meet a 20 year clearcut and a 3 year clearcut. Problem is that the deer bed in whichever clearcut provides the best wind advantage. I sat in the area on Saturday night and was winded 3 times but also had two does within range (still buck hunting guys). Hopefully I get something favorable this coming weekend.

I did have an interesting encounter on Sunday morning. I was sitting in a beech grove and had a hawk try to attack either my hat or my camera, not sure which, but it flared at the last minute. I was facing the opposite direction when I heard the wings flaring and all of sudden teh hawk flew within arms reach over my shoulder. It landed in the next tree over and screeched at me 5 or 6 times before continuing on its way. This is like the 4th or 5th time I've had this happen between hawks and owls over the years. It still gets my heart started.

On a plus note, my rutcation starts Thursday after work. I'll be off work hunting full time until the 17th of Nov. To say I'm looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year.

Here's a public land story for y'all...I scouted this morning making a big 3 mile loop and didn't see anything to exciting...so I moved over to another spot and here was another guy parked there and he was eating lunch. I chat him up and we make sure we're not interfering with each other. He's in a good spot on pond and I was 600-700yds away on another marsh. There was 8 shots over the course of the day with 3 bring pretty close. I saw a big deer running thru the clear cut behind/downwind of me probably 300-400yds away and I hear all kinds of screaming and yelling. I sit till dark and didn't see anything else. Once I got back to the truck I start putting everything away and the guy parked up the way I talked to earlier comes over. He tells me all about the guy with his wife and 2 kids who were sitting in the wildlife observation blind on the pond. Ask u walk up at any of these observation blind or towers the are signs all over saying no hunting from these blind or towers. The family man shoots from the blind and then he walks up to within 80yds of the guy that I'm talking with. The yelling I heard was between them and the screaming was the kids...he had shot across the pond at that deer I had seen running. If the family man shows up tomorrow he's in trouble with FWC.
All that shooting and 1 hog checked in....
Florida man lol

Glad to see you’re teaching the boy the ins and outs of bucket huntin.

Special thanks to @cutty stopping by and shooting the breeze with me....see u soon buddy.

Saturday was wild west with shooting all over and nobody checking in anything

Sunday I saw 2 does way way off in the morning sit and scouted till meeting up with cutty in the afternoon...talked till almost a little too late and hurried in for the evening sit. Watched squirrels eating the acorns that were falling in the scrape and multiple rubs...the wind switched a couple times and I think that contributed to not seeing any deer or hogs.

Brought monkey boy along and we walked most of the day. We saw frogs, turtles, snakes, bald eagles, scorpions, armadillos, possum, racoons, turkeys, alligators, manatee, dolphin, and no deer or hogs. Started raining maybe 45 minutes into out evening sit so I told him to pick a target and unloaded the muzzleloader and we checked out of the woods. I stopped on the way home and we fished for 1/2hr until he was broke off by what I assume was a redfish. He said it was a great day so I'm not so bummed about not seeing any bucks or hogs for this hunt. I have this same wma in Nov for a 3 day general gun quota and I found some good info with scouting and speaking with cutty who is very experienced hunter...thanks again

More than likely I won't get to hunt again till the late Nov quota....and also in late Nov a quota free archery only area on a local wma opens up and stay open till Jan 16 and they allow bucks, does, hogs, and turkeys of either sex so I'll be hitting it as hard as the family allows to get a doe for sure since I missed the opportunity during archery.

Once small game season opens the quotas become more lax so I can hunt more but just not for deer.
