I found an area with some pretty good buck sign. Its just riddled with scrapes and decent rubs. Problem is it is in a difficult spot to hunt due to the predominate wind direction. Its on a three way edge where approx 60 yo hardwoods meet a 20 year clearcut and a 3 year clearcut. Problem is that the deer bed in whichever clearcut provides the best wind advantage. I sat in the area on Saturday night and was winded 3 times but also had two does within range (still buck hunting guys). Hopefully I get something favorable this coming weekend.
I did have an interesting encounter on Sunday morning. I was sitting in a beech grove and had a hawk try to attack either my hat or my camera, not sure which, but it flared at the last minute. I was facing the opposite direction when I heard the wings flaring and all of sudden teh hawk flew within arms reach over my shoulder. It landed in the next tree over and screeched at me 5 or 6 times before continuing on its way. This is like the 4th or 5th time I've had this happen between hawks and owls over the years. It still gets my heart started.
On a plus note, my rutcation starts Thursday after work. I'll be off work hunting full time until the 17th of Nov. To say I'm looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year.
