I have another half day tomorrow morning....maybe the wind will settle down....it's changed direction all day long....northeast southwest switcheroos

Had an action packed hunt this afternoon. Scouted my way in and found a little area with persimmons and swamp chestnut oaks dropping on the edge of a blackberry thicket. Tons of fresh poop and scrapes under most of the low hanging branches. This was my setup. Had a big blow down behind me for back cover.

Within 10 minutes of setting up I saw a red fox and squeaked him in to 3 yards.

A little while later I saw a young 6 point working a licking branch about 60 yards away. He moved on and started eating acorns, then another similar buck with 7 points started working the same branch. The 6 point turned around, walked over to the 7 point, postured up and they started sparring. Well at first it was sparring... Every time they would separate, the 6 point would come back for more. After about 15 minutes of this they started really going at it. Putting their back into it. At the same time another 2 year old buck came out and started working that same licking branch. All this action was going on behind the big blow down you can see on the left side of my set up picture. So I unclipped and snuck over there. Got to watch those 2 bucks go at it from as close as 10 yards away for a few minutes until the 6 point seemed to except defeat. 2 more bucks came out and worked the licking branch right before dark. Had 5 different bucks inside 15 yards; a couple of them and the red fox inside 5 yards. Man I love this stuff...

What an awesome evening. For me thats what it is really all about. Too cool!

Glad some had a better day than we did
Jumped two fawns on the walk in
Then seen nothing else
Hiked 7 miles
No scat
No track
No deer

That’s incredible! You’re a patient man. I would’ve definitely shot at one of those deer! Glad your in them bucks.

It was an awesome hunt for sure. I was holding out hope that the 10 point I saw in the area last season was going to come stick his face in that licking branch. But if a doe stepped out while I was tethered in she would have been in trouble! I wanna put some points on the board!

Good luck everybody
We at it again in a different spot this morning

Seen 1 deer but it was far off...kinda repeat of yesterday with switchy winds and couple blowing at me when it swirled.....

It's not everyday u get to touch a living thing that is multiple hundreds of years old....

Very cool. Would have to have like 3-4 platforms to effectively saddle hunt that one though.

Just got home from weekend hunt. Beautiful warm weather! Not really much moving. Saw a couple of does but no bucks yet. Come on rut and cooler weather! Better hunting days are coming!

Saw 3 this morning, doe and fawn walked right under me at first light then a knarly little 3 pt walked under me at 9. That was it for this morning. Got back into camp and decided I really needed a shower so I took one. Discovered two ticks, one just below my Adam's apple and one on the back of my shoulder. I had permethrin treated my long sleeve shirts but its been so warm here I've been hiking in and out in short sleeves. I just treated those too. 20211010_131839.jpg

I know we are about to hit 90 here in Tennessee today. But in one week I see highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. They gonna be movin!!!

If you’re in the ticks you’re in the deer is what I always say. Too bad on the 3 point. I’m sure you wanted him bad.
