Team 10

Well, the trip was a bust as far as deer is concerned. Didn't see a deer out of any of us 7. And 5 left after Monday night. It rained all night and their tent leaked, and they got soaked. Me and my son stayed but had no luck hunting but saw some beautiful places.

I moved to a new section of the wma Saturday after walking more of the same area I hunted the previous 2 days. As I got down toward the swamp bottom I saw 2 real fresh scrapes and I contemplated setting up there for a sec and decided to move closer to the swamp. I snuck up to withing 50 yds of the edge and stopped and stood there for a minute scanning the bottom. I had been standing there maybe 5 minutes watching and all of a sudden a real nice buck jumped out and was bounding away to about 70yds and stopped behind some palmettos. I couldn't get a shot thru so I layed down in a blow down couple steps away from were I was standing and waited to see if he circled back. Sat on the ground for.an hour and then shimmed up the nearest tree to sit out the rest of the evening. As the sun started setting a small doe came out right where I last saw the buck. I watched her walk by and it started sprinkling. I little while later a second doe came out and followed the same path as the first....then a 3rd followed the same path. By then it was to dark to see to shoot down into the bottom and my hunt was over. Just like every hunt,it seems, I find the deer the last afternoon and if I had 1 more day it probably would have came together. All in all it was a real good hunt. I seen deer every sit and 2 bucks sighted in 2, half days and 1 full dark to dark day. 2 days is hard to figure it out and get on 1 especially in rifle season. I'm pretty proud of myself even tho I didn't get a shot

I snuck in w the e-bike for the last 2 hours of light after work. We will see

I only have 1 or 2 options of places to hunt now that I'm outta quota hunts. The tires on the truck are suspect so I still gotta steal the wife's car if I wanna go hunt. I don't plan on getting out this weekend. I got 7 days of vacation I have to use by the end of the year. A couple will be dedicated for family stuff but hopefully the lions share of the days will be spent hunting some highly pressured deers at a local military base. They allow bucks and does till the end of deer season in Jan. I hunt it pretty hard every year and have yet to kill a deer there

Welp baby's almost here so it's looking like February maybe January action for me. We'll see. Good news I may have seen that buck on camera again after the shot. Hard to tell, but looks like him. I moved the camera slightly to be hide it but never got another pic.

Got it done on the gun hunt this weekend.

Had to spend 30 minutes clipping vines and poison ivy on a locust tree in the middle of a very crunchy thicket with this buck and doe bedded 110 yards away(I didn’t know it at the time).

I grunted at a small buck way across the thicket to see if he could hear it at that distance (350 yards). I then hung my rifle to swing around and take a leak before the action started. Looked up and could see his tines sticking above the thick. The grunt stood him up. He tried to exit with his doe.

Not so fast my friend.

Game bags and replacement blades and gloves and food and water were all at the bike, 500 yards through that crap. So I made do with a single scalpel blade, my base layer shirt to carry the loose meat, and all the ropes I had to climb tree and Doyle’s hoist.

Earned this one, and will likely have the poison ivy to prove it. Let’s go team! Can anyone get it done late season?

Love it. Strong work Kyle, not sure what part of the story is me favorite, the whole thing or the using a shirt as a game bag improvisation.

I think I was wrong about not being able to get out during gun season, custody schedule got switched up a bit so my weekend is now free, going to give it a go in an area I haven't been in for a few years, so plan is to walk a bunch. Not sure if I'll climb a tree or not or even shoot one, but I'm gonna bring the game bags with me for this one just in case, I'll likely end up pretty far from the truck.

Between work, and everyone in the house coming down with a sinus thing, I haven't made it out since opening day afternoon of PA rifle... I have a scheduled hunt for this coming Saturday with the bow and late season I will be pushing to put a few more does in the freezer. I don't know that I will have any better buck points, but another 5 shouldn't be too much of an issue. Keep grinding and congrats to those who have killed!

You have pretty much maxed out you points. Unless you can shoot a bigger buck with more points. you can only enter 2 deer so your second buck is worth the 5 points of a doe. Well done! Great season bud

That's what I'm hoping, but it's not a high probability lol. I won't say the 5 doe points are guaranteed, but...

Great deer @kyler1945!

I'm hoping this season turns around soon. I hunted quite a bit the week of Thanksgiving and barely saw a deer. My "in town" spot that is doe only has a small field that was corn this year. It has been all but devoid of deer since they disked in the corn stover. Last year I had hunts there when I couldn't draw because I had 40+ deer surrounding me.

I'm starting to think this contest is a curse....

I may have to pick up a muzzleloader tag to help up my odds of contributing this year!

Thicket was mostly waist high to head height tangled up impenetrable mess. Was a bear getting in there.

Really can’t believe that deer didn’t move while I set up.

He was right here, 110 yards away.

Went to slide my lb up backside of tree and found a patch I missed with my knuckles. They’re worse when they’re rotten - strong enough to penetrate, weak enough to break off.

The poison ivy rashes are starting to show up too.
Not sure which is worse, the locust thorns or catfish spines. Knock on wood dont have the ivy allergy to deal with.
