Team 12 Thread

Its interesting how every state has a different deer management process.

So what is the Berry college property? Just curious...

It is a college campus in Rome, GA that has a WMA of 15,000+ acres attached to it. It’s archery only for the duration of the season, but they have a draw for 2 rifle hunts

So, it was one of those nights. Those does came back with about 15 min of light left. Walking right down the trail I was set up on. They hit that scrape and started doing deer stuff. I drew undetected, anchored, got the broadside shot I wanted, and fired.

She didn’t react much at all. Like she just walked off. My lumenock mocked me. I thought I missed. She bounded a little ways, then turned to walk my way again. I nocked another arrow, and she passed behind in the brush and walked away.

After I got down I went to grab my arrow. Shaft and fletching were clean and the head buried. Unfortunately, there was blood at the shot sight. I nicked her low. I followed the drops of blood in the snow until I lost them. I’m positive it was non fatal, but that is the absolute worst feeling. Ugh.

Saw one small 6pt this morning and another blank this evening but my buddy a 100 yards down had a buck that wouldn't leave a doe. Grunting and following her every move the from the time he climbed the tree. Once this front moves through, it's going to be RIGHT in my area!! Lots of deer will die in VA this Saturday which is the opener for muzzleloader.

Saw two 2.5 year old bucks. They need another year plus.

Monday my first all day sit in the saddle on my ridge runner.

Work is overrated

Morning hunt before the camping/hunting trip. Got out nice an early. Wind is howling, no sign of life except for a dozen squirrels or so.4CC2CCCD-A42F-4E12-ACD1-64002369D8B1.png

Well I've been out of the game for over a week and a half, sick from something. My covid test came back negative so I'm glad I dodged that bullet. Good news is tomorrow is the first day of my week long rutcation. Hopefully I can contribute to the team here shortly ;)

Hanging in a spot I’ve never been to before. Marked it on onX and showed up. Besides the person bumbling around with their headlamp shining the whole woods, it’s looking like a good spot. First light will tell the true tale! Good luck team.

Nothing for me. I noticed a pretty good size scrape while in the tree this morning. Saw another one climbing down. Ended up finding a line of 5, most of which had fresh tracks in them. I’ll be heading back this evening. Kind of windy but gotta give it a shot!

Sitting on a transition line between a stand of pines and an oak flat. I've seen a nice mature buck cruising through here for the past two years during the first week of November. Fingers crossed he survived last year and that he's coming through here tonight :)

Saw 8 does and fawns this morning. Set up for the evening waiting on 1/3 bucks I’m watching to slide in during daylight. Anyone else still have their bows out? Good luck fellas

Yep I’m still in bow season. Gun opens next Saturday but I typically don’t partake in gun, so I’ll be hunting with a bow until Thanksgiving weekend when ML opens.

I haven’t brought a firearm out in 3 seasons. Definitely could’ve killed a few more deer, but I’ve gotten hooked on bow hunting too dang bad!! Could’ve killed my target buck 3 weeks ago had I had a rifle... but it wouldn’t have been as gratifying to me

I definitely prefer bow hands down. Firearm around the Minneapolis area is stupid crowded to the point of being unsafe. I did it my first year here and never again. Fortunately they have a number of archery only properties that I retreat to once the gun season starts. Id probably do him if I had a place up north or something. Maybe. Lol
