Team 12 Thread

Have had a few fun hunts lately where Deer were in real heavy cover.
This pic is a river bottom/ marsh crossing that I set up 25 yards off of on a heavy trail.
Two does crossed close to where I had hoped. Plan to hunt this area again closer to the marsh as I’ll have a nice shot if a buck crosses.
I’ve been very selective with shots after calling a tracking dog last year

Finally getting out tomorrow morning for a few hours.

It looks like Tuesday is gonna be a sick day, I'm feeling a cold coming on right along with that cold front and a 15° drop in high temps.:hearteyes:

The weather was crappy all week so I never got out. Have a half-day tomorrow with a cold front pushing through during the day. Should be a great 2.5 day weekend of hunting as it's the first cooler weather we've had since the start of the season. Let's get some points!

Hope we get some cooler temps. Only got out a couple of times and feel like I should have saved some first sit spots, as I only saw a few doe. even took the morning off it’s been warm and very still for nearly 4 weeks. cams were so quiet, I’m hanging a couple more on the way out this weekend.

Have had nice one come in 3 times in the last couple of weeks Ive been hunting. Closest he got was a 27 yard hard quartering to me shot, didn't want to push it.
Heading to Kansas on Friday to hopefully put some points on the board.

Sat near some trails this morning it’s still been very slow for me this season. Had a doe blow at me last night setting up near bedding after still hunting through a big piece that borders pheasant fields
Found some fresh rubs after getting down today to stalk some edges and looking for new sign since it’s cooled off

An evening of firsts for me.
  • First deer during bow season
  • First deer on public land
  • First deer from a saddle
  • First deer with the HC mini
I honestly got lucky. I was way too amped and rushed the shot. I was so excited to have a deer at 8 yards, I wasn’t patient enough to let it do it’s thing. The moment it sensed something was off and I thought she was gonna bolt I should have let everything play out. In the end it worked out but lessons learned. First deer I’ve had to drag in a looooooong time, usually we just go get the quad with the sled

Shot under a nice big 8pt tonight. Happened quickly and no time to range. I had pre-ranged some stuff but he took a different line than I originally thought. Back at it tomorrow…

In my head he took the red line, in reality it was the blue line.

Well Team…
I’m the weakest link.
Missed a big 7 Thursday and a 8 pt beast Friday night. Tonight wraps up a crazy 4 day out of state rutcation, had six of the largest bucks I’ve ever seen in bow range and more deer in range than I’ve seen all season just Thursday and Friday ( over 20).
Grunted in numerous bucks and had a 10 pt directly under my stand just past legal light.
a few of the below bucks I had close but out of range and the big 6 I didn’t shoot as I had to check for blood on one of the misses.

hope you all are getting closer to deer. Fun hunt again yesterday, although this season is wearing on me now that we are into daylight savings/ cold temps.
In a tree from 1/2 hr before sunset to 9, then still hunted for a couple hours and caught movement 40 yds upwind As I was passing a rock formation . Nice public land buck was behind a tree and as I was getting my muzzleloader scope up for a shot , a doe took off and he bolted. 1 more second and I would have had a shot.
this is during regular firearms . Climbed a beaver dam to get around flood waters, to try to circle him with No luck

This season is one of the worst so far.
Went to Kansas last week of October, has horrible weather. We had 3 days of winds over 50mph, so the only choice was a ground blind in cedars. Was sitting in this tiny ground blind has a mid 160 10pt walk right next to it and keep moving away. Stopped him at 17 yards and hit high. I was more worried about hitting the bottom of the window then taking my shot.
Here in Michigan, I've had 2 encounters with my 2 target bucks. The first was early season had on at 32 yards broadside and figured he would trail all the other deer right under me. The other one was 2 weeks ago I had a doe a 7 yards full draw and about to let it go and I heard a grunt. So I let down and see my target buck at that piece. He is a main frame 10pt with split G2's and 3 extra kickers. Needless to say I was stoked to just see him. he was running does all around me. The closest he got was 42 yards mounting a doe.
Here's to the rest of the season, hopefully getting closer to something to shoot.

Anyone getting out this weekend?

fiance is sick so it's going to limit my time out but I plan on getting out twice this weekend. Likely Saturday morning and Saturday night, we'll see.

The big 8 that I missed the first week of November was spotted on the same trail by a family member so I'm hoping to have another encounter with him. Currently, it's "muzzleloader" season here in zone 3 which means I can still use my .450 (we got some weird rules in MI). If I see him or any other decent buck on the farm, he's going down. If I see anything on public, it's dirt nap city.

This one doesn’t count for the contest, I was in a ground blind, but got a late season buck before they lose their head gear.
