TEAM 2 Thread (2023)

Had great activity all day fellas but nothing I wanted to shoot. Just after first light two yearling does we’re acting silly chasing each other around they must of done it three time before ambling off. Then a forky came in to a few soft grunts about 45 minutes later. Two does came through about an hour after the small buck and then in the afternoon a doe came in after I grunted agsin. Finally around 2:15 or so a button buck ambled through, I wanted to stay through last light but I promised my wife if help with getting ready for Halloween stuff with the kids.

Yesterday evening I had two does around me for about 45 minutes and then this morning I passed a small 6pt. This evening will likely be a bust as I’m just going to sit at my house and hope an 8pt shows up again that came out last night but it’s very windy for this area

I was in the winter wonderland today! All baldies. 2 at first light then 4, then 1 then 2. Got down at 12:30.

I took all next week off fellas to chase a special one. The new piece I scouted I saw a decent 4x4 and a massive 5x5 both at 60yds on back to back evenings following does out to feed…I’m going in trying to catch that big boy slipping up during the rut fingers crossed. So tomorrow through next thurs morning before a SD pheasant hunt I’ll be in the woods all day every day, thank God for a wonderful wife willing to stay home with 4 kids for 10 days….

Check out this NY Colossus one of my former colleagues shot yesterday!

I finally got back into the ridge from my last photo. 900 yards long and that 12" oak is the biggest live tree. Thought about ground setups, but its full of 1-6" saplings intermixed with cedars, it would be almost impossible to get a shot off over 10 yards without something being in the way. Did find 2 more fresh scrapes all within 50 yards of each other. Did some light scouting into the bedding on the Eastern slope, but the wind wasn't playing nice so I backed out. Back at it on Monday. I need to get some points on the board and some meat in the freezer. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Unfortunately not going to have much time to hunt this weekend but I plan on taking some more time off next week.

I slept in this morning but plan to sit at my house this afternoon. This buck came out the last two nights. I was there the first evening but he looked around and went right back in the woods. Hoping a decoy might get him to come in range if he shows again this afternoon. Nothing giant but it’s what is there

Setup for this evening. Never used a decoy much so hopefully it works. It is Friday which typically means more noise from the neighbors as well which is always a concern on such small properties

Very cool, I want to employ decoys in some of my setups too. Do you spray the decoy down with anything after you set it up or do you just rely on setting it up downwind of where you expect the buck to come from?

No scent for me. Strictly using as a visual. Two nights ago he walked out into the powerline opening and went right back into the woods (presumably because he saw no deer). Last night he stuck around chasing doe’s according to trail cam pics. My hope is he shows and will come check the decoy out before it gets dark. I’m the past I’ve only used it as a buck decoy and never any luck. I have a bad feeling even if he shows up he won’t get close enough to decoy for a bow shot but hopefully I can give better comments in the next hour or so.

Well @Gator, how did the decoy work?

Buck didn’t show. 2 does with 2 fawns came out down in the bottom but if they saw decoy could care less. A single doe came out and investigated the decoy but wouldn’t get within 10 yards if it. Eventually just started feeding but kept her distance
