TEAM 2 Thread (2023)

Thanks @woodsdog2. There isn’t a great story. I’ve been chasing two other higher scoring bucks I’ll say but it’s starting to get late in the season so my standards may have changed a littte bit. I was sittting in the same general area I had sat the previous two gun days with slight adjustments for the wind direction. Once again way warmer Saturday than it had been so I wasn’t expecting much. Sure enough movement started very late when close to sunset I saw two does a long way off (couldn’t even see them without binos). Few minutes later two more does pop out but they were all way down where I had been sitting for different wind. About 10 minutes left of light when I hear footsteps and out pops a young 6pt and he walks within 10 yards of me. Eases past me and starts rubbing a small sapling and finally moves on. Once I feel he’s plenty clear, I start packing up when I hear footsteps once again. This guy steps out and it’s getting really dark to the point that with binos I’m having a hard time making out his head gear. Once he clears the brush line I can tell what he is and I get a shot at maybe 14 yards. Blood trail was amazing

Bow kill then? And forgive me. What state again?

Mistakes were made today. Scout/Hunted about 3 miles of ridge in a new area today. Didn't knock an arrow due to rough terrain. Couple hours later I teathered into tree for a break/map recon. Sitting in my saddle, feet on the ground, bow against the tree in front of me, I notice movement 50 yards to my right in some cedars, and a 10 pt walks out on a path that will take him 10-15 yards to my left. Slowly reach for my bow, only to realize I knocked an arrow when I stopped :rage:. Slowly start getting an arrow knocked, when the unseen doe behind me loses her mind and starts blowing/stomping at me 40 yards up the hill. Neither one stuck around, and I'm out of the woods until Monday. Lesson learned - put an arrow on the string when you stop.

Kill ready at all times. Close to cover. These are two things I needed reinforced as well. And finally, one in the hand...........

Well my week just took a downward turn. Went to log in this morning and EVERY hunting area is closed. Checked the Post hunting FB page and they are conducting arial hog eradication until at least Wednesday, Thursday or Friday as needed. This p***es me off for 2 reasons 1} the lack of advance notice and 2} they didn't open this up to ID Card holders. I would have paid to ride around in a helicopter and shoot hogs all day, brought my own weapon and ammo too. Guess I'll be heading to the NF to check out some areas I found during spring turkey.

Going out this afternoon and I have parts of the weekend. I’m hoping for more points. I’ve really been picky this season in hopes of one of our shooters but they’ve been kicking my but. I’m still gonna try but will also try for more points in the board. Our season ends in the first.

Went out last afternoon skunked again! Rainining this morning so I decided to do some much needed stuff around the house. Hopefully I can get out this afternoon if the rain subsides somewhat.

Went out this afternoon it’s our last day of the Holiday Hunt and that’s it for me in NY. I did apply for a permit in an area downstate that is running a management hunt through January. I’ll post if I go there and try to squale another doe……it’s antlerless only for the management hunt. I’m toying with trying OH but it’s most likely a pipe dream…. Off season life calls us back! :fearscream: :fearscream: :weary: :weary:

Sorry for my slacking

Working a ton & have hit 720hrs of OT this yr and barely hunted so far

Only been in a tree about 10 times this season and haven’t had any decent legal bucks in front of me

Got a pretty good 3day central FL hunt coming up mid Jan and think I should be able to get a buck and may keep the doe tag instead of giving it away

So still plan on contributing to the competition
