Team 5 Thread

Speed scouted a spot where I bumped a buck duck hunting a few weeks ago midday yesterday, and hunted it this morning. Didn’t see squat, but there was a brand new scrape opened up about 15 yards from my tree. Happened sometime between midday yesterday and this morning. Glad to know there’s still a buck doing his thing in there after the chaos of duck season!
So are you gonna try and get after him or what?

One deer and we arent in last boys! I am out of buck tags and already have multiple submissions so I cant help, who is gonna be the one to get us on our way up the ladder??

I’ve got one doe tag to fill. It’s gonna rain 2” tomorrow so Monday will be ideal conditions.

I’ve got tags and will be back out there on the week of the 18th when season reopens. Got time in an urban zone for antlerless only as well as my standard tag to fill.

This year I’ve had a bunch of bucks in the antlerless only but only a couple does in range and does and young bucks in the regular areas when I wanted to fill that tag with a nice buck. Wish I was helping the team half as much fun as I was having seeing cool deer. Don’t worry, I’m slinging at anything eligible in the last few weeks though other than late yearlings; they taste great, nothing wrong with it if it’s your thing, it’s not mine currently.

IMG_5395.jpegKeep plugging at it!!! I start my 30 day managed hunt Friday!!! I can take 3 deer including a buck! Hoping for a late season kicker! This is some of the sign I found while scouting! Also saw 4 bucks all shooters!IMG_5394.jpegIMG_5393.jpegIMG_5392.jpegIMG_5396.jpeg

Sweet! Good luck. This last month has had me not in the woods, but once. The last two weekends have rained Saturday and Sunday and the one before that I had gout in my ankle.

The one day I did make it out I saw a doe, but didn’t shoot her because I was hunting from my truck. Decided I would rather wait and shoot her with my bow or at least from a saddle, lol

Team 5 weakest link here
have had does in daylight after that rain, and firearm closing the 3rd. One out of range and another got spooked by a coyote.
I snuck out after work for a two hour hunt , closest I have gotten with the recurve all season. two does were held up checking the wind and were head pumping a little ,prob because I had a dark top on over my predator bibs, and my arm was falling asleep from holding my bow . I was in good cover so they never spooked but were pretty alert. I drew back but needed the bigger one to clear a branch to make a shot at my 11, or the other to turn a bit. They relaxed and worked to within 10 yards, but light faded and was after legal. I went through my draw cycle again when the biggest was full broadside and the trailing doe jumped a bit when I let down . then they slipped out past me.
I have 2 more days to sneak out w recurve , no arrows sent last few hunts and today . tomorrow west wind is crap for presets And I may be done Due to work schedule.
sorry I haven’t contributed any points. thanks for the support and hope you all punch a few more tags.

I needed a fun hunt like this , I take this way too seriously and needed a reminder of how enjoyable, exciting and uncomplicated hunting deer should be.
Merry Christmas all

I haven’t hit the board either, you aren’t alone. Nice to hear your perspective, I’m always working on that side of it too! Seems like when the appreciation sets in the deer in the freezer follow sometimes.

Definitely not the weakest link. I think I take that trophy! As long as you’re enjoying yourselves, that’s all that counts!

I’ve done a terrible job putting up points but I’ve had a lot of fun. The freezer is full of meat and I’m a happy man. What more is there?
Nothing buddy. Nothing. I’m still super excited to get back out when my season reopens and I’m hoping I do better for points and deer.
I’m just not that mad or disappointed at myself as I should be. Strange year

If I shot the doe or one of the young bucks on public early on then I was done there and I never saw the one I have sheds for, even if he did stay out of my range.

So so many bucks on urban land where I have doe tags. Infuriating. Broken nock clean miss on the first I did get a chance at. Glad it missed clean.

I almost forgot how hard this is. On several levels. Good to be reminded sometimes. That makes decisions easier if you get a next time.

What’s the story?! How’d you get that deer? Do you think it’s the one that layed down the sign you were seeing?
This is the 8 pt I saw scouting the day I took the pics of that sign! He actually hit one of the rubs before I shot him. 10 yrds broadside! Heavy cover in a travel corridor along a creek bottom between bedding but also close to a food source.. He read the script perfect!!! He was the biggest of 4 bucks I saw that morning.
He ended up having a 17-1/2” spread and weighed 154lbs field dress. IMG_5447.jpegIMG_5446.jpeg

Had one extended family Christmas yesterday and one today, not a big deal since bow is closed in Iowa for gun right now anyway, but people asking my about it made me realize how screwed I am on days left.

Like everything in life it goes fast. Going to sneak in every minute I have for the next few weeks and hope for the best. The days are long but the years are short.

Back after them tomorrow morning. Urban zone time for me so I’ll be after a doe, more than one would be welcome of course but I’ll take anything I can get and by this point in the year even a good percentage of the young ones around here are of good enough size to be taken.

It’s unseasonably warm here. Rain and fog today, temps are in the 50’s for highs. No snow to be seen. Excited to be back out in the woods after the break for shotgun season.
