Team 5 Thread

I still have tags. Season ends Jan 15th here in Missouri. My season will end on a great note no matter what! I’ve taken 4 does, a button buck(thought was a doe), an 8pt, & 2 coyotes!

I have tags and Friday-Sunday to hunt. I have to drop off and pick up kids Friday so it would be a midday hunt. Actual temp is 0 and real feel is between -8 and -13. I’ll try to sack up.

Wife teaches and her school got cancelled. 1 minute later my kids school got called off. I may need to just take a sick day and hunt tomorrow. Brutal wind coming but I haven’t got to hunt in snow yet. Maybe

I wish you could’ve gotten your hands on that incinerator hat ahead of time, that thing is the real deal. Love mine.

I have a tag good thru Monday. I was making plans to hunt Sat-Mon, but step one for me is weather. A foot of snow on Friday with periodic snow and single to no digits over the weekend broke my spirit fast, lol.

Better get over here, we should get some ducks with this round of weather. May be hard to find any open water that isnt in a main channel though.

21 year old me probably hunts the next couple days but 41 year old me with a wife and two kids probably isn’t hanging in a tree with 45 mph gusts and 30-45 below windchills. Hoping the forecasters are wrong in some way, I’ve got my gear laid out like I’m going.

45 year old me wishes I was still hunting, but is glad my freezer is full and that I don’t have to sit in single digit weather waiting for a deer to get so cold that it needs to get up and build some body heat!

I hope y’all are staying warming and eating lots of venison!

Wasn’t my year but darn did I have a lot of fun. I got a bunch of encounters on video and got completely busted zero times. Once a buck stared me down for so long I was certain I’d move first, was afraid to move my eyes. Eventually he went back to browsing. I held at full draw on two deer without letting the arrow go while I made up my mind. I got to hear two bucks fight and it was so loud I didn’t know what I was hearing until they came into view with one chasing the other off 5 minutes later. Got to watch a buck so tired his tongue was hanging out chase down a doe who was so exhausted she almost ran into the tree I was in breed her 50 yards away. Almost got down from a tree because the geese in the crick were so loud it was annoying after while. Had a non-hunter tell me what a loser I was on an urban hunt and two joggers try to lead me to a good buck in the same spot 5 days later. Lost binoculars and range finder crawling into a spot I wanted. Made mistakes. Learned.

Bow hunting and this community have me on a whole new level with deer than I was for the first 25 years I gun hunted. I got 3 in my first year and thought I was better than I am, it’s good to be humbled. Thanks for letting me join your camp, next year I’ll go back to putting more in the soup than unused tags. My dream buck is still alive as of 3 days ago and the chase continues I hope.
