TEAM 8 Discussion Thread

Working from home, sitting at my kitchen table and watching a big 10 push does around the city property behind the house. Shot an email off to the city on the off chance they’d grant permission, but of course they did not.
Yeah, there's a bunch of county owned land around me that is just sitting there...not getting hunted...

We sold and bought a house. Now we have to pack and move in Dec 20th. If nothing else does will be coming rifle season.

Well fellas, I'm home from my rut-cation. I was outdoors for 3 solid days (and nights - if the tent is considered outdoors). It was cold sleeping in the tent. Got down to 13 degrees one night. I passed up a big bodied (but small racked) buck Tuesday. In Ohio, I only get one buck, and while I might settle for a dink in January, I won't in November. The cold plus the long steep hikes (2 hours each way Monday and Wednesday) have beat me down pretty hard. Monday night it rained heavily on me for 2 hours as I hiked down a steep slippery slope. If I hadn't been using tracking poles it would have been almost impossible. I'm traveling out to Virginia tomorrow and staying for the weekend for my daughter's senior recital at Liberty University. Not sure when I'll get back in the woods but I still have some vacation time left. Congrats to all you Team 8 Buck Slayers! Nice work!

As if I needed more crap for this hunting thing, I was surprised to receive my package from DanO containing my knaider swaider. This thing is an absolute gamechanger for the wild edge steps! Can’t wait to get out with these things on!

If I fail to put at least 5 more points on the board, may my carbon bolts shatter 30ft up. ;)

Bucks are a different story down here, but I saw some doozies out scouting that SOA property. They didn't seem too smart.

I wouldn’t want your bolts to shatter. But you may owe everyone on team 8 a new trophy line saddle.

But what they don’t know won’t hurt them........right

Trust me, if I wasn’t in an HOA subdivision I’d be saying that same thing. I think I can just about get the clearance required to shoot my bow legally (I practice out there in the summer regardless). The getting him on my property would be the hard part.

Personally all city, county, state, and federal property belongs to the tax payers and should only be closed to usage for legitimate safety reasons. Not saying I or anyone else should hunt on city property without permission. Just that if I’m paying taxes that are funding the city should I even have to ask? It’s like asking my son if I can go in his room and watch tv.

I agree with you 100%. But it’s also not worth a poaching charge, confiscation of gear, suspension of hunting privileges and whatever else is in the book being thrown.

It is however pretty cool to be watching legitimate rut activity. That’s getting me fired up to get out again!

I get it. It is cool watching rut activity. Drove by my lease right at dark yesterday and saw three bucks crossing the road within a half mile. So now I’m torn between a piece of public that I have some good spots I haven’t been in a couple years or my lease with the rut going strong. I’m leaning more toward public in the morning and lease in the afternoon.

It’s officially on out back behind me. I’ve seen a BIG 8, a big 9, and a basket 8 all chasing today. The biggest one is hot on a doe and chasing the others off. Super cool to watch!

Got us 5 points FINALLY! Been up in northern MN since last friday and it seems to be slim pickings for bucks up around here this year. Here's to hoping i can contribute with a buck before the season ends.

@dblomberg4 on the board with a doe today. I haven’t tried to do the math but I think we’re in the lead. Hopeful on what tomorrow will bring. Today looked like a wonderful day to be in the woods. Nasty as all heck but they should be on the move. Good luck.

Hit a piece of public this morning saw one deer two fox squirrel, three otters and five people. One came walking by at 7:45. I couldn’t believe he had walked in .75 mile with a climber and left at 7:45. Oh well I was glad to see anything on a property that I haven’t stepped on in a couple years. Hunted this evening on my lease with zero sightings my me or my son. Oh well next chance for an upgrade will be next Saturday

This is a dumb question but figure but is a safe space. I don’t currently use any molle pouches on my saddle, everything goes in my pack. For those who use pouches, what do you put in them? Do you load them up and leave a pack at home?

I know we all have our systems that work for us, but I’m wondering what everyone else uses to see if I can streamline my setup.

I use a pouch and hold my tether, a spare caribiner, and a strap to hang my gear. That's it nothing crazy. I normally walk with my pack and weapon on my back and a climbing stick in my hand. When I get to the tree I set my stick, tether up and start climbing. I've eliminated pull up ropes this year. My linemans belt is daisy chained for limbs if needed.

I use 2 pouches. One pouch contains my lineman’s belt, tether. The other holds my squirrel steps, aider and pull up rope. Also have a back pack even in the early season.
