Opening day temps just under 90F. 24”+ short of annual rainfall. Gonna be tough but t-minus 4 days!

Anybody going to be in the tree this weekend? Don't look like I'll make it. It's just not hunting weather here. Looks like we might get a cold front and a North wind Wednesday and Thursday next week. Hoping I can make it out for a morning hunt then.

I’m working but it’s high 80s anyway

Just got back from Aruba late Saturday night, so probably won't make it out till next weekend. Looks like a nice cold front coming in next weekend. Haven't prepared any trees yet so first couple hunts might be sort of slow starts.

Just got some hard horn pics of a buck that's been gone for a while. Last year I didn't see him around anywhere till the middle of November and all thru December. I figured he would do that again this year and I would be able to go after him if I didn't get onto anything else before then.

I'm pumped to see he's around now. Hopefully I can get a better bead on what he's doing now. I moved a couple cameras into the area to hopefully get some more info.

I went out to my ‘opening day spot’ that I’ve gone the past three years. It’s a tree on the edge of a pipeline running through some public. Can see 400 yards in two directions so it’s nice to get out and see what’s going on. Can see deer in other parts of the property and if any other hunters show up. Saw 6 doe, a 4 point and heard a spike buck bark like a dog directly beneath me. Had no idea he was there until I heard him 3 feet from my tree. Good morning but probably won’t be back out until late in the month.

Well I tried to do a hunt this morning but thunderstorms pushed me out. I did find a broken arrowhead on my way out. Kinda cool knowing that archery has been happening on this property for a long time.

The weather is looking pretty good for the weekend. Headed to the local Army base to check it out(1.5 hr drive, semi-local). First time hunting out there so I pretty excited to check it out. Sounds like not a ton pressure during the archery season. We will see if all the hours of watching YouTube will payoff

I will report back if I see anything.

Got lucky and was able to finally get a break from work after working 12 hour days for a month and a half. Off tomorrow through Tuesday.

Looks like I’ll miss the best day of hunting Saturday but gotta keep wife happy so need to spend at least a couple days with her!

Hopefully be in a tree or at least scouting Saturday evening then hunt Sun, Mon, and Tue morning before coming home.

I’ve never gotten year after year pictures of bucks but this trail cam picture I just got (of course I’m not hunting this morning) looked like the buck from my favorite picture of last year.

Black and white was from 7:31 this morning as I stood out back thinking about the weather and hunting.

Well I'm in the woods. Couldn't find a suitable tree where I wanted so I ended up on the ground. Had a great 3 year come through that was just begging for a arrow but I'm hoping he can make it another year.Screenshot_20231007_080711_WhatsApp.jpg

I took my son out for firearms doe season today. I took my bow along just in case. At 10:15 the game camera took a picture of a small buck about 50 yards from where we were set up. We never saw him.

I'm glad you said it so we didn't have too....haha.

That's all part of the fun is enjoying the outdoors.

Probably a good pass arrowsquirrles, especially if you have bigger deer in the area.
